How mush is tomas Plekanec worth?
Some say he's worth 5 millions/year, but he's the habs second center, scott gomez being the first one. Scott gomez is paid 8.5 M/year, so he cant be traded. Should the habs pay as much for a second center? will Plekanec accept less to stay with the habs?

Technically Plekanec's line (with Cammalleri and A. Kostitsyn) has been the #1 line for most of this season, with Gomez/Gionta and now Pouliot being #1 when Cammalleri went down. Think of it as line 1 A and 1 B. That all being said, the man deserves a significant pay raise, being the best player on the team. Anything under 5 mill and the habs win, with 5 probably being the most he's worth,

He is the best hab at the moment, and if it weren't for Gomez's absurd contract, he'd be their #1 centre as well.

He's not particuarly big, but at 5-11 and 197 (from Yahoo), not overly small either. With the exception of 08/09 (only 40 pts), he's consistently increased his point totals since coming into the league to being ~70 pts per year in 2 of the last 3 years - he is also scores a slightly higher number of goals compared to overall pts than other traditional centres do, which is a plus IMO. He plays even strength, PP and PK, and is productive in all 3 situations.

Someone is going to offer him 5M/year - his stats and player profile are similar to Kesler who just got 5M/year, and at 28 years old Plekanec is coming into his prime. I don't know MTL that well, and don't know what his allegience to them is, so don't have a feeling one way or the other on hometown discounts. But there are plenty o' teams in the hunt for a player like him in the offseason with cap room (NYR, CAL, TOR come to mind initially), so a 3-4 yr deal @ 5M per is very likely to be offered IMO.
