A lot of critics believe that habs made the wrong call tradeing away Halak this season, a lot of people have gone as far to call Price a bum, but how much of it is deserved?

My question to you is how will Price perform this year?

I really believe that having Subban there this year will help Price alot. He is keeping Price loose all the time. Anybody notice their handshakes they have after every game?

He doesn't have to look over his shoulder anymore. I'm not sure people have taken that into account. Yes, early in the season, but he does look good. Goaltending is notorious for its late bloomers, and I think the fans that wanted to and want to run him out of town are being just a little over the top.

Hopefully Halak got the Habs the winger that was and is needed for the Gomez/Gionta line in Eller. But first he has to earn it and that is a good thing.

I know it's pre-season, but, 4 goals on 10 shots last night, Price looks shakey..............booed off the ice in an exhibiton game....

It's not fair for Price, It's not fair that I want him to fail miserably just because he wears the blue, red and white...

No but really I think he will rack up at least 25 wins. It's fair to say Montreal will get 35 and that Price gets most of them. (this is my hockey sense talking)

But my heart want him booed out of town and the Habs fans would be left with Ramo and Auld.

which just goes to show that starting young doesn't matter for goalies, so it doesn't really matter what Price has done before the age of 23, it matters what he does from here on out. There are a whole host of great goalies that started slow or later than 23, and another host of goalies that started well young and faded from prominence before their time.

I think Price will do OK, not good and not bad - but he's emotional so we'll see how he handles it. One thing I think could rattle him - if Halak has a stellar season with STL, you know the Montreal press will be watching and he won't hear the end of it.

It's really going to be feast or famine this year for Price. I personally believe feast, but who's to say. Last season, the Habs had a team that could support a 30+ win keeper. If Halak would have played a full season, he would have been close to 35. However, Price has some demons to exercise and it's going to be a very difficult place for him to do that. I think many Habs fans, especially after last years playoffs, are not happy about Price still being there.

That being said, there are back ups in Montreal. Alex Auld is a more than capable back up with more than 200 NHL games an a 30+ win season under his belt.

Regardless, if Price can manage the first 10 games with a reasonable streak (6+ games won) than the fans will sway quickly. If he gets off to a poor start, he will never recover.

I say he will play well and get 30+ wins.

You made me laugh, and I don't think you are that far from the truth at all.

A lot of it is about expectations - expectations of the rabid and extremely hard to please Habs fans; expectations of the coach/management. As PE points out, the Halak factor is important, and will indeed have a part to play in all of those expectations if Halak plays very well for his new team.

With all of that pressure, that would be enough for most to crumble . . . but on TOP of all that, Price is young and seems fairly immature; there is no real back-up to speak of; there is no experienced goalie back-up or reserve to guide Price; and he has already failed once as a starter, whereupon his replacement excelled and helped them to two very unexpected playoff wins.

It's all too much to bear, I feel. Price is absolutely bound to crumble, IMHO.

Montreal's defence is ok, though, so it might take time. That's why I voted for more than 15 wins but below 25 . . . I don't think he'll have a horribly high GAA or abysmal save percentage, but I do predict him letting in bad goals at bad times in low scoring games . . . and this will be a result of his mental state.

He's really being set up to fail when you look at all the factors involved. I think it would be a Roy-ean miracle for him to finish as the glorious #1 starter with more than 30 wins.

Aha, but pasty, I left an option in case Price did well: F) King of Montreal!

You're right, though, fickle Montreal fans will forget if Price does good enough, unless...

and this is the kicker, if Halak does better than Price (putting aside team performances) then whatever Price does will not be good enough. (Example: if Price gets 35 wins, and Halak 40-45 wins, Price is in a bad light, same with SV% and GAA)

I'm just saying, Price has a very small margin for error with the fans.

Pasty, it seems to me like you are posting these stats to make yourself feel better (and MTL fans).

Whether Price does well or not does not bother me one bit, as he will be paid millions, I will not take him in a hockey pool, and I doubt he will ever be an Oiler!

Truth be told, I think he will do OK, but remember, in Montreal, if you do OK, you will be booed out of town if you are a touted player.

So, your poll should read:

Will Price be:
A)Crucified
B)Hung
C)Electrocuted
D)Severely Beaten
E)Robbed
or F)Enthroned as King of Montreal(and most unlikely)

Really, has only two options, play amazing, or leave town!

If you add a:
G) Traded to Leafs,
I'm sure Price would prefer all of A) to E) instead of G) !!!!

i disagree,, i don't need to feel better i have always felt pretty alright with the habs goaltending issues,, Price is and will be a very good goaltender in the NHL weather the fans drive him to a new home that is another matter.. you are right habs fans are fickle but i think that you failed to realize you only used that in a negative way,,, if Price goes 7-2-1 tom start the season and plays well during that span all is already forgotten and trust me that is how bad the fns are here they flip flop that easy!
