Rangers made a move to replace Frolov fairly quick

Posted - 01/12/2011 : 17:59:42 Rozsival is a good defensemen and should fit in well with your Coyotes. For a team like Phoenix who doesn't have to worry about the cap ceiling, then Rozsival's contract really isn't that bad.
While he remains a $5 million cap hit, he's really only making $4 million this season (so costs PHX approx 2 mil), and will earn $3 milllion next season. |

Posted - 01/12/2011 : 15:56:17 As a Coyotes follower, Wolski was quite frustrating this season - his "lack of passion" was often on display. And while I'm somewhat disappointed in the return, Roszival will bolster PHX's blueline as a top 4 guy. |

Posted - 01/12/2011 : 03:08:51 Been wondering about Wolski for a while now. If the Coyotes made that trade I assume they wanted him out of there for one reason or another because it seems they traded what they need most: a dynamic young forward. Gotta go with the attitude theory, if you are consistently getting traded for players who are not as good there must be problems the public doesn't see. Good player though, hope he does well in New York. |

Posted - 01/11/2011 : 21:39:59 I only saw the first half of the game then i had to go to my own hockey game...but Wolski was solid in the 30 minutes i saw, had a couple of decent chances and the line of Wolski/Dubinsky/Gaborik was dominant in the early going.
Was very disappointed when i got home though to see that the Habs had won 2-1! |

Posted - 01/11/2011 : 10:28:33 Just found this little article, written on the 9th, just before Wolski was sent to NYR.

Looks like there was "tension" between the Avs coach (Sacco) and Wolski as well as some frustration by the coaches towards Wolski's attitude and "lack of passion" on the ice? |

Posted - 01/11/2011 : 10:23:29 As I recall, both were swapped for the same reason - change of scenery. Both then did very well for their new teams, so it worked out for both sides pretty well. I also think COL was not confident they could resign Wolski, that he was asking for too much money (correct me if I'm wrong).
Both have subsequently been dissapointments for their new teams - Mueller has yet to play this year and may possibly not play again. Wolski has dissapointed in PHX this year, and has now been shipped off to NYR.
I'm not sure why he struggled so much in PHX this year after such a good finish to the year last year. |

Just looked it up...Mueller had 9 goals & 20 points in 15 games with the Avs.
That's what i thought Ryan, but wasn't Mueller either "in the doghouse" or simply not getting a lot of ice time in Phoenix? Seems like a strange trade looking back when you take into consideration the numbers that Wolski had put up in Colorado. That's where i believe nuxfan might be onto something? There must have been a reason that the Av's let him go for a struggling player. Either they saw something in Mueller that they really liked (and those 15 games proved someone was right) or Wolski somehow wore out his welcome? |

Posted - 01/11/2011 : 08:46:02 nuxfan, although i don't know the circumstances on his first trade, you could be onto something? Looking at it closer, his 18 games last year with Phoenix following the trade saw him register 18 points! How on earth he struggled for ice time this season is beyond me? And, the numbers he put up in Colorado over the years were not bad at all, including the year they dealt him (47pts in 62 games and a +15)?
Anyone recall the deal that sent him to Phoenix? Wasn't it for Mueller who was struggling with Phoenix at the time? Usually a trade like this would be a swap of two struggling guys, but it doesn't appear by his numbers that Wolski was particularly struggling?
Nuxfan, perhaps he's not a very good teammate? |

I completely agree Slozo. Wolski has been brutal this far but a change of scenery may be all he needs to get back on track and of course get more ice time as has been noted. He just wasn't getting the playing time in the desert!
Didn't he get a change of scenery about a year ago, when he was traded from COL to PHX? He started great in PHX, and then seems to have fizzled this year. PHX is an offensively-challenged team, so if he had showed any ability he should have been able to stick with them IMO.
I'm a bit worried about a 24 year old that has already needed a change in scenery twice in his career. |

Posted - 01/11/2011 : 08:24:01 Even with Frolov now out for the season, the Rangers have an abundance of forwards. All 12 bodies they are currently dressing are NHL forwards, and yet they still have regulars Vinny Prospal, Ryan Callahan, Erik Christensen and Derek Boogaard out with injury. I think it's safe to say this won't be Slats last move before the deadline. |

Of note as well, from what i heard reported, the Rangers also save 1.5mil in cap space with this deal. That's something that can't be overlooked in this deal! It can only help the Rangers moving forward, possibly setting up another/bigger deal. |

Posted - 01/11/2011 : 08:16:13 I'm really not sure what to think of this deal yet. I mean straight up, i like it in that Wolski is 8 years younger, about a $1.5 million cheaper cap hit (both players are signed for 1 more season), and has a bigger upside.
Rozsival was having a good season though, and was putting up some respectable offensive numbers despite getting very little time on the first PP unit (if not for injury was on about a 40 point pace). The Rangers are choosing to go with a very young back end as Rozsiva was really the only true veteran defender they had, i know i personally wouldof felt more comfortable with him in the line-up come playoff time.

Posted - 01/11/2011 : 05:16:02 Good trade for both teams, yeah . . . but better for the Rangers, IMHO. They were the team that needed this the absolute most - and Wolski is a decent player who still has some upside, despite this year's poor performance.
Win for the Rangers, as they were desperate, and probably couldn't have done any better as a stop gap. The market is tight!

Posted - 01/10/2011 : 18:53:57 I think this is a very good deal for both teams, as Wolski will finally get some ice time and will be able to produce more than in phnx. And Phnx upgrades their defence, good trade, good trade.
