Posted - 01/19/2011 : 17:48:15 4g (and 1a) already for Gaborik tonight, and still a whole period to go.... we haven't had a 5 goal game since Gaborik's last one in 2007 - and before that, not since 1996!
In VAN, sportsnet gives away $1M if any one player scores 5 goals in a game... |

Posted - 01/20/2011 : 20:27:48 I'd add Eric Lindros to that list as well. Love him or hate him, you can't deny he was one dominant player before he started having the concussion problems. When he was on he was almost unstoppable. |

Jyrke Lumme is not on that list???? hmmm weird...
hehe just kidding. But yeah Pavel Bure was a great player to watch. Bure, Forsberg and Lemieux are the 3 players that I find the most unfortunate that their career was cut short because of injury.
I would add Orr and Bossy but I'm too young to have seen them play anyway. |

Posted - 01/20/2011 : 15:21:31 Very good points Beans, but for me, the biggest surprise is New Jersey, hands down.
If you want a positive surprise, for me it's the Dallas Stars. |

Brandon Dubinsky Vinny Prospal Ryan Callahan Erik Christensen Alexander Frolov Ruslan Fedotenko Derek Boogaard
That's 6 of the 12 forwards from the opening night roster (Prospal would of made it 7, but he's yet to play a game this season due to his knee injury)....plus both Chris Drury & Marian Gaborik missed time this year to injury as well.
I wonder is Lundqvist is having an off year because of all these forwards missing???
Nope!!!!!
Biggest surprise team in the NHL are the Rangers. Most people had them as a non-playoff team. Even with the list of injuries this year and a defense without an star attraction, the Rangers have been one of the most consistant teams in the East. |

Posted - 01/19/2011 : 21:50:59 Gotta say, one of best of the many awesome games i witnessed Bure in person, was his first here in Vancouver. It was at the old Pacific Colosseum and he had everyone constantly coming out of their seats! Funny thing, he didn't even score on the night, but it was the night that thousands of Canucks fans mention when asked about their favorite Bure game! It may not be the top one for some, but if it's not it their top 3, their crazy! It was a glimpse of what was to come, and for a team lacking in the true game breaker, he pumped so much excitement into this city i can't even begin to describe it!
I recall going to a charity dinner the Canucks put on back then and a different Canuck would serve each table. I think we had Gerald Diduck if i recall correctly, but i believe Bure was the only guy they kept under guard so to speak. He was off to the side, not serving and mingling with those who would have prob mauled him for an autograph, signing autographs in row 1 (the fans were all on the floor of what would normally be the ice. |

Posted - 01/19/2011 : 20:42:56 P. Bure was one of the BEST players to ever play the game, hands down, no question about it. Was a thrill to watch. |

Posted - 01/19/2011 : 19:42:23 Yeah if any Canuck did, you'd expect it to be one of those 2. I used to love watching them both, especially Bure. It's too bad his career had to be cut short, i was so excited when the Rangers traded for him in 2002, and he made his mark immediately. In 12 games with the Rangers, he had 12 goals & 20 points!! |

Thanks for that. |

Posted - 01/19/2011 : 19:05:17 All i've heard on the Dubinsky front is what was said on TSN tonight, which is 3 to 4 weeks. It's too bad, Dubinsky has been their best forward all season & was on pace to easily set personal bests in all offensive categories. Same with Ryan Callahan. |
Alex116 |
Posted - 01/19/2011 : 19:01:02 nuxfan, any idea the last time a Canuck got 5 in a game? Has it happened? Just curious.
As for Gaborik, it'd be nice to see him string a few good games together. I don't expect 5 or even 4 pts / game over the next two weeks but perhaps a ppg+ would say that this guys finally got his head outta his arse??
Really sux for NYR that Dubinsky's out as well! Heard for a month, is that accurate ryan93? |

Posted - 01/19/2011 : 17:53:46 That 5 goal Gaborik had in 2007 was against the Rangers!!
Obviously i'd love to see him pop #5 in the 3rd...it appears Torts got through to him with the benching last game against Philly. Gaborik has been virtually invisible most nights lately, but he is definitely on tonight. Now here's hoping he can continue scoring and not fade off like he did after his previous 2 hat tricks this season. The Rangers need him scoring, especially with Prospal, Callahan, Christensen, Frolov, and now Dubinsky all out. |
