Simple question . . . at the end of this regular season, which team in the league will have the most blow-out losses - losing a game by 5 goals or more?

Current leaders are:
1. Edmonton (46 GP) - 6 blowout losses
2. NY Islanders (45 GP) - 4 blowout losses
T3. New Jersey (46 GP) - 3 blowout losses
T3. Calgary (47 GP) - 3 blowout losses
T3. Columbus (47 GP) - 3 blowout losses

Also, heading towards the end of the season, we can possibly see more "blowouts" as teams begin to start their younger talent more & more. That is, teams that begin to mathematically run out of playoff position. Take the Sens for example - I'm sure we'll see more of the "other" Brodeur minding the net... And the Islanders, who have already begun the youngster parade, the chances of seeing more blowouts there are high...

Well - this guy was right about the sens and the blow-out handed to them by the habs

But those key young players grew up watching their heroes in other cities and teams. if their dream team offers them the right dough...their gone. The current cba is NOT good for fans. Im tired of gm's being held down and unable to make serious and impacting trades...dont we all love trade deadline? Not anymore.

Thanks for reading the point.

Money talks, you are corrent.

The Oilers will have $50+ million reasons to stay together.

And really, why this assumption that young talent wants to leave their team, in this case Edmonton?? Firstly, the RFA rules state that a player can not be a UFA until they are 24-25 depending on when they start playing in the NHL full time. So Edmonton will have the ability to set qualifying offers and/or utilize arbitration for their RFA's if required. Secondly, what people fail to realize is that in 3 years when all this talent is ready to sign their 2nd NHL deals, Edmonton will have $49+ million dollars under the cap as it sits today. If the cap increases(as it has for the past number of years) to say $65-$70 million, than the Oilers will have between $59 and $64 million to spend.

Why the assumption the talent will leave. It's not like it's Toronto and they will be player for a team that hasn't done anything for like 50 years.

Slozo, serious if it make you feel better to justify your completely garbage team by knocking the Oilers cheerleaders than so be it.

Jeleously is an ugly, ugly thing at times, isn't it??

Secondly, why is a blow out limited to 5 goals? Who made the criteria that a blow out is 5 goals or more. The current average goal differential through this point in the season is a little more than 2. So is 3 goals a blow out?? 4??? Who knows.

Here is a little bit of information for ya:

The largest goal differential of the year is 7. The teams who have lost by 7 goals or more are(number of times in brackets);

CAR(2), TBL(2), STL,WAS TOR(all 1)

Teams who have lost by 6 goals:

TBL(2), OTT, (2), EDM(2), ATL, CBJ, CGY, NJD, VAN(all1)

Teams who ahve lost by 5 goals:

NYI(5), EDM(4), CBJ, CGY, NJD, WAS(all 2), ATL, CAR, CHI, COL, DAL, DET, MIN, NSH, PHI, PHX, SJS, TOR(all 1)

Teams who have lost by 4 goals:

OTT(8), MIN(5), ANA, CBJ(both with 4), NJD(3), BUF, CAR, COL, PHI, SJS, TOR, VAN (all with 2), and then a buch with 1.

Finally, teams with the most games lost by 4 goals or more:

OTT(10), CBJ&EDM(7), MIN, NDJ, NYI (6), CAR&TBL(5), ANA, CGY, TOR (4).

So, it comes down to defintion. If one believes a blow out has to be 5 or more goals, than TO is not on the list. If one suggests that double the average goal differential is a blowout, than TO is tied for 5th on the list.

I said they would be at or near the top of the list. I was wrong that they are at the top of the list but not wrong that they were near the top of the list.

5 is more than a blow out! 4 is a pretty bad beating.

I said Islanders. zero depth and little hope for the near future.

Ottawa they suck balls this year and will have the most blowout losses. hands down.

I think 7852 is implying that the young Oiler players will all want to leave Edmonton once they can do so - Pronger-style. I would not count on that happening though.

I think EDM will continue to lead in blowout losses - they're not good enough yet to make games close. I look at the other leaders - NYI, NJ - which are teams that had horrible starts but have pulled it together recently - most of their blowout losses happened before the pull-together.

Oilearl - you can disagree with another gueast pot (?!?), but just don't smoke it.

If any of the Oiler young guns become superstars (doubtful), you think they want to stick around for a team in the frozen north to watch ugly cheerleaders dance around while they lose close games instead of total blow-outs? ROFL

Seriously, without a defence of some sort, and with no starting goalie . . . your odds of building a competetive team are low to none.

I picked Edmonton for obvious reasons and by the time the contracts come up this group will have already been through the worst together. The fact that they are all approx. the same age bodes well for them to want to stay together and compete for a championship. Why would they struggle for 3 years then quit? I could not diagre more with your pot guest 7852.
Guest7852 Posted - 01/21/2011 : 08:48:30
Edmonton is the obvious answer. They are a young team and can either be really good or stink out the joint. By looking at the numbers posted here it would appear that they will have a blow out almost once every ten games.

I think that the Oil have a short window to put that winning team together before all the "talented rookies" want out, upon their contract expiring. Edmonton seems to have difficulities keeping players and perhaps for the likes of Hall, Eberle, Parjavi etc when their contracts come up, they will want out as well......

Then back to the rebuild
