Posted - 01/28/2011 : 17:56:01 The sedin twins are going to be playing against eachother for the first time ever! It is going to be interesting to see how they preform without eachother.
What are your thoughts on this? What do you think is going to happen on Sunday? |

Posted - 02/02/2011 : 07:08:46 The All-Star game is meant to be an exhibition. It stands to reason that the players are not going to put "playoff" effort into the game. Besides, no one wants to see the players get injured during the All-Star game (or anytime else really). That said, it would certainly be nice to see the effort/intensity level in the game stepped up a few notches.
Alex - As for the idea of a golf tournament - I don't think you want to be playing golf in late January in Ottawa. It'll be a little bit cold And then there's the matter of finding a white ball in a snowbank...
That said, for next year's All-Star game, it would be nice to see some sort of involvement with the Rideau Canal and an outdoor fan fest of some sort. In fact, I'd be surprised if the Canal wasn't somehow worked in to the festivities.
Obviously the game can't be played outside (though I suppose it could be at Landsdowne) but having the teams practice or put on the skills competition at Dow's Lake / on the canal (as the Canucks did a couple years ago) would be pretty cool.
Generally speaking, I think as long as they do their best to avoid "going stale" and avoid becoming "gimmicky" the All-Star game will be alright. I don't think we'll ever see a point where we'll reference an All-Star game as a "classic" (say the Canada-US world jrs. New Year's Eve game, or Eberle's last-minute heroics etc..) |

The draft, skills competition, and the game itself now are a complete farce and ultimate JOKE.
Who wants to watch a bunch of men floating around the ice like school girls at a ice hockey rink during a school outing. gimme a break...i can see kids watching this. Most hockey players now ( as much as i love the game ) are a bucch of over-paid spoiled brats, give me old time hockey anyday.
Wanna watch a real all - star game ?? Look up some of those early 80`s games...at least the players tried.
Even the NHL GM`s rolled their eyes at what these guys displayed at this years game....i turned it off after 7 - 8 minutes....can`t watch this stupit-ity.
Duke, i agree with you (did i just say that? ) about the game itself, however i didn't hate the skills comp. At least in that, guys are giving it their all (for the most part). Loved the relay thing, especially those guys having to pass into those microscopic nets!!!
I'd prefer, for all star weekend, they have a skills contest, then a golf tournament (best ball) where 4somes are drawn randomly. Throw in a poker tournament or a softball game or something. Sure, picking all stars wouldn't really relate as well but it's become more of a meet 'n greet type thing for the "kids" to see their "hero's" than it is anything else really. Imagine the crowds the golf tournament would draw!

yep those 80's players could really fricken skate slower and shoot weaker. Stop being a hater. The skills cometition was really cool, but I can see where you get the game being boring for not much happens. Over paid spoiled brats? Im sorry but do you think singers should get more money then theese people? The amount of effort hockey players put in to play the game is more then you can imagine, infact you can say that for any big name sport! I recall Ovechkin showing that he was having fun at the game, and he did not get paid for it so where does cash come into this!!!!

Posted - 02/01/2011 : 12:30:01 Very interesting and funny suggestion Guest8032! I agree with Leigh – that would have been very funny for them to change jerseys at the all-star game. I wonder what kind of gags they've pulled over the years? They seem to enjoy being identical twins. It seems (although I'm not certain) they wear their hair the same, right down to their facial hair.
I remember a funny quote from Marc Crawford, who coached the twins year ago, where he was asked how he could tell them apart? Without missing a beat, he replied "That's easy. Daniel is #22 and Henrik is #33." |

that would be priceless and I'm certain no one in the media would have a clue. Probably only Kesler would know and he'd play along. It would get the NHL some serious good press even in non-hockey markets! |

Posted - 01/28/2011 : 22:46:00 As much as i'm psyched to see how well the Sedin's do, it's just one game, and an exhibition at that. It will really depend on who their linemates end up being i suppose?
Looking from the other side, a local hockey writer here in Vancouver was thinking it'd be better if they were on the same team (and line). He had a very good argument for this and that was that this sort of game is supposed to be used to help promote the game, especially in the US. What better way than to have these two showing off their skills to the casual fan who likely never sees them?
Either way, it's gonna be interesting to see how they fare.
BTW, the draft in general was kinda cool. A few surprising picks and big props to Kessel for the way he handled a situation that was prob a lot tougher than some would think. I have to say, Stastny looked pissed when it came down to the two of them and i'm not sure he'd have taken it so well??? |

Posted - 01/28/2011 : 21:17:22 they'll be fine. Its the all star game, its not like competitive hockey is being played or anything... I'm sure they played the occasional pond hockey game on opposite teams when they were kids. |

Posted - 01/28/2011 : 20:10:21 Like a book, Beans has to take a shot at the Leafs / Kessel.
You have such a hardon against the Leafs/Kessel you just can't let it rest. This topic has absolutely nothing to do about the Leafs or Kessel, its about the twins.

I am starting to think that you are a closet leaf fan, your fan affiliatoin for the oil must just be a front |

Posted - 01/28/2011 : 18:46:22 As a big Richards supporter, i'm hoping he gets to play on a line with Stamkos & St.Louis. So i was kind of hoping Team Lidstrom would take Eriksson for this very reason, but no such luck. Hopefully they still go that route though and not stick to the Richards/Eriksson combo. |

Posted - 01/28/2011 : 18:43:59 I figured it would come down to Kessel & Backes. Was somewhat surprised to see Backes go before Stastny & Eriksson, but i agree, was glad to see Phil go last |

Posted - 01/28/2011 : 18:16:00 Granted, still one of the top 36 players in the NHL, I gotta say that Phil Kessel going last made me smile. But good on the NHL for the charity thing and the new Honda for Phil.
It was a decent draft. Pretty evenly picked teams. |
