As dirty as Cooke can be, I can't say he's at fault here.

Dipietro was out of his crease by a fair distance, watched cooke rush towards the corner after the puck, and, intentionally stood there to bump him.

That's why Johnson felt the need to defend Cooke there. As, if Cooke defended himself, towards a goaltender, would have caused an all out brawl.

As much as I like to see goalie fights, I think this one is pointless. Matt Cooke crashes the net and DiPietro gets punched out for it? I'm not a defender of the Isles, but this is stupid. I would love to see a goalie fight Cookie and crush his ugly face...cheap shot prick!

I want more goalie fights, more often. This is great even though it is 5 seconds long. I could see Schneider getting into a scrap.

Don't hate me because i'm Beautiful

Speaking of oft-injured players...

Since the 2005/06 season.

DiPietro:

(NHL) games played - 222
Most GP in a season : 63 (05/06 07/08)
Fewest GP in a season: 5 (08/09)

Leclaire (NHL):

(NHL) games played - 171
Most GP in a season : 54 (07/08)
Fewest GP in a season: 12 (08/09)

Though I think it's worse for the Isles since DiPietro's on that massive 15 year contract and Leclaire will be a UFA after this season.

OMG! That's unbelievable. Well, actually it's quite believable, but i'm sure you get my point!

In one thread we had Patrice Bergeron called "Kesler of the east" or something to that matter.....do we now have "Salo of the east"???

Both those guys should retire and have a celebrity boxing match against each other. Ah, screw it, MMA fight......see who can last over 10 seconds?

Are you serious?!?! I don't think i've ever seen someone as injury prone as that guy!

The Isles could use a guy like Nabokov right about now

According to NHL.com, DiPietro is now expected to miss 4-6 weeks as a result of the fight with Johnson. >>

Isles' goalie DiPietro to miss 4-6 weeks
Friday, 02.04.2011 / 1:10 PM / News NHL.com

Rick DiPietro is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to facial fractures suffered in a fight Wednesday and knee swelling, the latest misfortune to befall the oft-injured New York Islanders goaltender.

DiPietro, who played just 13 games over the previous two seasons due to persistent knee injuries, is 7-10-4 in 21 games this season with a 3.36 goals-against average and .890 save percentage for the Isles, who have fallen into last place in the Eastern Conference.

In the closing seconds of a 3-0 loss in Pittsburgh, DiPietro got into a fight with Penguins goalie Brent Johnson, who quickly connected with a punch to DiPietro's face, dropping him to the ice.

Wow – what a gentle fight. Sure, the knock out blow (or knock down blow) was a good shot by Johnson, but did you see how he handled himself the punch?

First, he kind of guides Dipietro's head making sure that his head doesn't hit the ice too hard. He also makes no attempt to throw another punch, and in fact, he seems to be checking to make sure that Dipietro is okay (patting him a couple of times), while carefully removing himself from on top of Dipietro.

Kinda odd to compliment someone for being classy in a fight, but Johnson earned my respect, first for how he handled himself in the bout (sticking up for a teammate after all, even if it was Matt Cooke), but more for how he treated Dipietro after the fight – making sure he was okay, and also, no interest in causing any further damage. And most of all, no showboating, however, it was neat to see the reaction of his teammates, in particular Marc-Andre Fleury.

One thing for sure. It seemed that more poolsters were worried than Johnson about whether he earned a shut-out or not.

Haha.

Johnson 1-0, TKO.

Lol, not sure what's more ironic, Dipietro actually physically able to dress for a game, or the fact that he'll prob be put on the IR following this one punch beat down?
