Yay for Franzen with a 5 goal game tonight - a few weeks ago Gaborik almost had one but fell short.

He's the first 5 goal game in nearly 3 years.

I was watching the Canucks game and it was funny because at the beginning of every telecast, the play by play team mentions a long going contest where "if any Canuck player scores 5 goals in tonights game, one lucky fan will win $1,000,000"!!! After they announced it, one of them said "well Franzen had 4 tonight so anything's possible" whereby his partner said "he had 4 half way through the third. They also got an empty netter, maybe he got it?". Then they had a chuckle when they found out a few mins later that indeed he had!

Way off.

Joe Malone.

Who in the world was Joe Malone?

Researching, him, he's also the only player to ever score 7 goals in a game.

Makes me think that it was a really old player or slightly obscure player.

My guess: Mike Bossy or Rocket Richard.

Now, I'll go look it up.

Ya Gaborik in 07 was the last player to reach 5 and prior to that was 1996. Amazed by the gap by no means is it an easy feat but didn't think there was that big of a gap. Anybody wanna guess who has the most 5 goal games? Believe me i will know if you looked it up lol

You forget, nuxfan, that Leafs fans young and old subscribe neither to the geocentric nor heliocentric models, but rather to the leaf-centric model: everything revolves around the Leafs.

BACK TO THREAD:

Great on Franzen. I didn't watch the game, but was watching the scoreboard, and saw he had a two-goal game going into the third. Checked in later on and really wished I had him on my pool team that night.

Who was the last player to score 5 goals? Gaborik?

How come this topic didn't come in the middle of the third period? How come no one is slagging the Sens, and how awful they are? How come the topic isn't called a 6 goal game instead of 5 because the writer was hoping for one more goal against a truly crap team?!?

Because I wasn't home in the middle of the 3rd period of that game. And because he didn't get his 5th goal until the very end - there was no chance of a 6th. 5 goal games are enough of a milestone.

As I recall, no one slagged the Leafs in the Gaborik thread either - why do you keep bringing that up as a leaf-hating thread? Look through it again, tell me if you find any comment that slags the leafs either directly or indirectly. I didn't even see the word "leaf". Nor did I bring up the Sens in this thread.

Very well said FER and Mario.....

Mario...as far as "bashing" Pittsburgh or most other teams, the big difference here is there aren't a ton of Pens fans on here. Leafs fans "get their backs up" mostly because of the sheer numbers of them!
Mario 66 Posted - 02/03/2011 : 15:29:19
Lol i don't think anyone could of summed it up better FER. Maybe their is not alot of talk and bashing on the sens because it was a 7-5 game with two stints of 3 goals in a very short time & two goals in the first minute of the third. It was an example of old time fast paced hockey with lots of scoring. Had it been 7 - 1 and Franzen had 5 then i am sure you would of seen massive posts on one of the sens threads about their need to blow up the team. I mean 12 losses in 13 games is a 7 - 5 loss with lots of excitement anything but a positive at that point? If you watched the game last night as i did on TSN their is really no comment to be made except for the skill Franzen has and the up and down fast paced game it was.

I think some are stretching this bashing a little to far and the rope is about to snap. By the way how about the pylons forwards putting on a show in Pittsburgh without crosby & Malkin? Just so leaf fans vision isn't obscured and they realize the hate goes all around. Leaf fans just fight it a little more then the rest thus why the bashing seems more profound & repetitive.

That was the ideal game for Sens fans. Lots of goals, exciting, and they still lost. I hope their is more of these games to come. Congrats to Franzen on the big game

You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take Wayne Gretzky

Oh, right - it's the Sens. No one cares about them, lol.

That's funny trying to deflect some of the Leaf Laughs that have been going on.....well done....GOUDA job!!

now someone pass the bubbly!!

PS. Just a quick quote from another thread...

"Yet again, another thread where non-Leaf fans want to hi-jack the topic by endlessly discussing some Leafs history."

What does that make the Leaf fans guilty of in this thread then?

Guest9722 Posted - 02/03/2011 : 14:29:56
if this was against the leafs there would be pages of comments by now.

but its the Sens. Slozo is right.

Not even the biggest closet Leafs fan has commented.

Thats right....... looking at you BEANS

Great players like Franzen deserve this. He always puts in so much effort at scoring his goals.
