hall's powerplay, natural hat trick breaks his 7 game goal drought. Is this the sign of things to come for the youngstar? Will he work his way into the calder conversation?

Hall is going to be an NHL great, a superstar, no doubt about it.

I don`t think he will have a 2nd year slump. My view on many of these slumps is the simple fact that some of these 1st year players don`t be paid attention to by opposing teams until their numbers are built up to respectability.....by then they`ve already had a very good season.

Thats why many of them see their numbers drop after the all - star break. Opposing coaches start to see they are for real and pay more attention to them.

In Halls case, he is so good and gifted that ( i think ) he has been paid attention to by opposing coaches from day one. Therefore he should be well adjusted to the attention by now and shouldn`t have a down - turn next season. If anything, i predict him to have an outstanding 2nd year, points wise.

Good for Hall, It won't make Edmonton make the playoffs though... Grabner for calder!

Don't hate me because i'm Beautiful

I'm also concerned about the potential sophomore slump with him Beans. It will be up to the coaches to keep him from getting frustrated if it starts to show itself. The coaches they have are suited for that I think. It may not be a bad thing for him if there happen to be another couple rookies in the lineup next year who have that new player excitement. He can then be looked at as someone who can lead the way with "experience" (as much experience as you can expect to have in year 2 I guess) which may keep him a bit more grounded and properly motivated.

Although this thread is not about who will win the Calder, I agree that Skinner will win the award barring injury. Hall will be nominated but will not win.

That being said, Hall has grown through this season so much. Many players that start in the NHL at such and young age and right out of Junior often falter. For example, many will say that Luke Schenn actually took a step back once making the NHL and it took him nearly 3 seasons to get back to form.

That being said, my biggest concern with Taylor Hall is the dreaded sophmore slump. Often a player will run into a wall during the 2nd season and sometimes players never dig out of that hole. Think of Tyler Myers, Steve Mason, or Barrett Jackman. All were Calder winners are all were well below their performance in their 2nd year compared to their 1st year.

Many of the Oilers have to guard against a sophmore slump but none more than Taylor Hall. The kid has loads of potential and he doesn't even realize how good of a player he can be yet. He is just scratching the surface.

hall has just as much of a chance at grabbing the Calder this year, as he does of getting another pp natural hat trick.

Skinner has been good and should win the calder. I love to see Halls hard work and effort payoff though! He is a beauty.

Yeah, the Calder is Skinner's to lose at this point. And if he does, Logan Couture is waiting as well. Or Sergei Bobrovsky in Phili... As good as Hall has been this year, I don't think he's as good as those 3 for the Calder.

Maybe we should start the parade route plan now? I'd like to book a hotel!

I was busy, and couldn't watch the game, but really wish I could have seen it.

Right now, I would give the calder to jeff skinner, and I think it's his to lose.

If skinner stays consistent, then he wins it, unless Hall goes on a crazy point streak.
