Ya, i forgot about Girardi, but McCabe will be good in unit 2

Bring back the Jets!

Yeah I understand that. The Leafs have always been my 2nd favorite team so I'm well aware of Bryan McCabe, both the good and the bad.

The Rangers are completely void of puck moving defenseman that can bring some offense to the table, so in that aspect I think he'll help. Recently the Rangers have been forced to go with 2 forwards on the point on the PP (some combination of Wolski and rookies Stepan & Zuccerello)...McCabe should be able to help out here.

I wouldn`t get too excited Ryan, wait till you get to watch McCabe play every night. This guy has soooooo many brain cramps. He does play with intensity and tries every shift but he constantly makes so many bad decisions.

As Slozo pointed out, he has to play with a very good defensive partner, if not, just watch his plus / minus nose dive, believe me.

Hopefully Marc Staal is back in the lineup soon...damn brother Eric putting him out with a knee injury!! Actually according to the team his brothers 2nd period hit had nothing to do with the injury and instead he hurt it earlier in the game.

I doubt you'll see McCabe paired with Staal, no need to break up the Staal-Girardi pairing.

Very good pickup for the Rangers, he would look good beside Marc Staal on D.

Bring back the Jets!

It really just depends i guess on how many teams he was willing to waive is NTC for. For all we know, maybe NYR were the only team he would do so for. I doubt it, but you never know.

Tim Kennedy was a decent young player for the Sabres, but was never really given a shot this year by the Rangers & really didn't have a future with the organization. He was having a solid season for the Wolf Pack with 42 points in 53 games. I'm sure you'll see him get some playing time with the Panthers, although he's been sent to Rochester at the moment.

Yeah, he ok'ed the deal to the Rangers.

Good pick-up for the Rangers . . . he adds offensive punch, and has a great shot for the pp. Still has loads of defensive lapses though, so needs to be paired with a real defensive guy.

Also surprised they couldn't get more for him.

he would have had to waive it.

did his NTC follow him to Florida? i thought he was still under the contract that JFJ gave him in Toronto...
only reason the Leafs were able to trade him is because he waived it. so did he waive it again?

It was well known that Bryan McCabe was available. He was one of the most oft-rumored defensemen to be on the move. As for why Florida traded him, well why not. He's 35 years old & a UFA after the season, and the Panthers are 8 points out of the playoffs.

McCabe has been linked to the Rangers now for a few weeks, and i sort of expected him to end up in NY. I know he's not having his strongest season offensively, but i love the move. The Rangers have the youngest defense corps in the league, so McCabe will bring some much welcomed veteran leadership to the group. He still has a great shot, which is something they have been missing the last couple seasons. He'll help the PP and is still capable of playing big minutes.

Well nux I guess I just wasn't really thinkin about it. He was barely if ever brought up in the rumors on here and It never crossed my mind. I wonder how it happened. He has ony been there for 2 seasons. Was there conflict? Did he want out or was it just random?! I guess he was a sleeper pick that a lot of people passed by.
nuxfan Posted - 02/26/2011 : 14:12:09
great pickup for NYR, especially considering how much Kaberle got in return, this seems like a bit of a steal for a very similarly styled defenseman

semin - you didn't see McCabe getting traded?
