Its a 1-1 tie in the final 5 minutes of the third, Game 7 of the Cup finals.

Select 3 Fwds, 2 D & Goalie who you would want on the ice to clinch the game for you! Are you a fan that thinks Defense wins championship, a guy who throws caution into the wind and throws your offensive juggernauts out there or do you go for a balance between elite goal scorers & play makes who are equally accountable in their own end?

Beans in your scenario if i up 2-1 i stick with the exact same lineup howvever, if am down 2 -1 I stick with

Crosby Datsuyk & Zetterberg as they are all creative with the puck, clutch performers and reliable defensively. On D i leave Lidstrom & Replace Weber with Duncan Keith and my sixth man would either be Toews or M Richards

Crosby-Ovechkin-Zetterberg
Lidstrom-Chara

To answer your additional scenario Beans, I put out my original dream lineup for all your situations:

Ovechkin - Crosby - St.Louis
Lidstrom - Pronger
Lundqvist

Ovechkin is such a constant threat that he doesn't need to play defence in the "hold a lead" situation, the rest of them are excellent at defence, with the obvious offensive excellence for all. I tried to choose by natural position, and opted for speed/skill over experience (hence Datsyuk was left off).

My sixth man in with Lundqvist pulled is . . . Stamkos.

(note: was very hard to keep off Toews, M.Richards . . . but I opted for that elevated skill level)

The more interesting question is not the tie game in the 3rdas there is always overtime. The strategy most often during that time is cautious aggression.

The more interesting questions is you have a choice to have 5 players on the ice in 2 situations. The first situation is down 2-1 with 5 minutes left and the second situation is up 2-1 with 5 minutes left. You must use the same 5 players and a goalie for both situations. Who do you choose???

For a kicker, if you are down 2-1 and pull the goalie, who would be your ultimate 6th attacker???

Had i said 45sec - 1min which is your average shift then I would presume most people would simply throw a completely different lineup out there to ensure overtime and not risk giving up the winner with under a minute to play

In that scenario, I might throw my backup goalie out there as well, to create a "goalie wall" in front of the net
Mario 66 Posted - 03/03/2011 : 09:51:08
Realistically, 5 min would not be a shift for one line. However; I selected 5 mins as it forces one to decide what style of players they want on the ice and gives others insight on the style of hockey other members appreciate or prefer. Had i said 45sec - 1min which is your average shift then I would presume most people would simply throw a completely different lineup out there to ensure overtime and not risk giving up the winner with under a minute to play

So, 5940 = sahis? Am i correct?

If so, love the "they might get tired" comment, but don't understand the 3 dmen on the ice comment?

Really, it's a tough question, it's not like it's been offered up as it's overtime or 1 min left so more than one line will realistically play but still, 3 dmen on a line?

Really sahis?

Only one would really play D, one would be in deep at all times

For current players, it would have to be:
D. Sedin H.Sedin Byufglyien (The passing+net presence=WIN!)
Zdeno Chara Shea Weber (Big shots and no Chara to move Buff)
Luongo in net (Byufglyien is on my team, together at last)

Bring back the Jets!

Staying with current players:

Toews - Crosby - Getzlaf

Keith - Weber

Luongo

(Keeping it Canadian)

Cute question . . . and it begs another one: do you select players that play on the same team and have chemistry? Is it a fantasy situation where we pretend these players have played a full season together? Do you select by position, or at least what a player could play?

'Cause if it was the players getting thrown together tomorrow from wherever they are playing now, I'd simply select the best line in hockey for my forwards and the top defensive pairing in the league at this moment that combines great D with excellent offense. That lineup would probably win against the one I'll post later, just on familiarity and cohesiveness. I select the best goalie who is familiar with the most players, since I don't have a goalie at this moment who is head and shoulders above the rest:

Getzlaf - Perry - Ryan
Yandle - Aucoin
Hiller

I'll select from today's players, from whatever team then, not based on any sort of chemistry, only skill at their position:

Ovechkin - Crosby - St.Louis
Lidstrom - Pronger
Lundqvist

And now for my all-time lineup, based on some chemistry as well:
Kurri - Gretzky - Selanne
S.Niedermeyer - S.Stevens
P.Roy

Hooooo, that's a good question. Tie game... jeez

Up front: Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos, Henrik, Daniel
Defence: Shane Obrien
Goalie: Dont need one with SOB on D.

yeah, I think Thomas would be the guy I would want in goal. Solid. Confident.

I hate Pronger. I would take Pronger. Duncan Keith would be the other D.

Get well soon Sid. You would eat the rest of them up right now.

Getzlaf, Kopitar, Stamkos.

The Oil WILL make the playoffs in 2012.

nuxfan Posted - 03/01/2011 : 15:46:36
I'm only going with modern...I think this is a good combination of offense and defense, so I'm hoping for the best but planning for the worst

F: Toews, Datsyuk, Kesler (although I'm not sure what confusion comes out of having 3 centres on the ice at the same time)
D: Lidstrom, Chara
G: Miller
