Posted - 03/16/2011 : 14:10:04 The Calgary Flames are in 8th place right now, they have 81 points and have played 72 games, Nashville (9th) has 80 points and have played 70 games. Anaheim (10th) has 79 points in 69 games. Can the Flames make the playoffs?

Posted - 03/17/2011 : 10:21:59 It's going to be tough but if the Flames can win 7 out of ther last 10 (5 of which are against teasm out of the playoffs) they may have a chance |

Nope - they won't make it. Devils have a beter chance in the east than they do.
Statistically, you are quite incorrect.
And as of right now, Calgary is tied for 8th with 2 more games played, while New Jersey is 6 points out with one game in hand on the 8th place team.
You cannot make every unplayed game a win or a loss to suit your point.

I wasn't basing my comments on anything... it's just an opinion. And I was not trying to make any point. Loosen up a little - it's just a comment or opinion |

Posted - 03/17/2011 : 05:12:16 I actually think Anaheim and Calgary will make it. Both teams full of savvy veterans leading the charge who know what it takes, both with top-notch goalies.
I think Nashville should fall out of the picture . . . but then again, I've been saying that for a while, and say it every year.
But with how close it is in the west, I do go with the best goalies for that last game to win to get in scenario. Calgary, Anaheim . . . oh, wait - that would mean Dallas doesn't make it, I guess.
Oh well, so be it. And yeah, it would just be Canada's luck that Calgary will probably get in, only to face Vancouver, lol.

Posted - 03/16/2011 : 14:40:56 they were hot thru Jan and Feb, but they've stumbled a bit in March. Injuries are playing a part (Morrisson and now Moss). I don't see them making it at this point, finishing just outside the playoff picture.
However, even a 9th place finish should be seen as a remarkable achievment for this team, who were 14th or 15th as late as Jan 1 and effectively written off for the year. To make it as high as 4th in recent weeks, in what is shaping up to be a very tough and competitive western conference, was not an easy thing to accomplish. |
