Posted - 03/24/2011 : 11:42:30 A few of you guys may have seen this on TSN a few nights back. From what I understand the Leauge has fined the kid who apprently comes off the bench with 5 or so seconds left, and goes full tilt across the ice and hits a kid from behind a 40 game suspension. After the little scrap in the corner the Assistant coaches end up in a fight on the beches and they both recieved 26 games and I believe a $1500 fine (not 100% sure) and the head coaches recieved 2 games ea. for not having the other coaches in order.
This is the kind of hit I would not want to be taking!

Posted - 03/25/2011 : 17:47:41 I'm probably not alone in saying that this is the dirtiest hit I have seen in hockey! And that includes Partice Cormier! He blatantly (and when I say that I mean he might as well have been waving a sign saying I have too much testosterone and anger issues so I'm going to run this guy as hard as I can from behind into the boards) speeds up to his close to top speed just to hit this guy. He should be gone, even if he has good talent, teams are going to see his history including this hit and are going to be reluctant to take him.

Posted - 03/25/2011 : 11:41:52 Yah that was a pretty nasty hit I wish someone would have really beat the S**t out of that punk!
Mario I heard that the kid that got hit in this video is playing in their 2nd round series from a fan who follows the leauge pretty closely. Cant say forsure however. |

Posted - 03/24/2011 : 18:18:45 Never have I witnessed a better example of a guy who should never be allowed to play hockey ever again. Sick.
The coaches getting into it, wow. Frankly, it could have been worse. Good on the team in black to skate off the ice because it could have been even worse with a serious full team brawl. Not only that, how quickly could have something like that been spread into the stands with parents and fans fighting as well.
Sick is all I can say. I can't even drop a hit in the neck joke for this one. |

Posted - 03/24/2011 : 16:24:53 THAT was ridiculous. I'm left to wonder, if the kid, errrr, idiot, who did that, has been taken aside by his parents, coaches, anyone, and explained just what could have happened and what he'd have to live with for the rest of his life if as Mario mentioned, the guy's head was down!
What a complete moron. |

Can't watch the video from work but I will check it out later.
This is one angle that no one really talks about and that is the impact of the role model to young players. They see it in the NHL and they want to do it on the ice themselves. Good or bad. I remember being a kid and having fights with my sister where she would imagine she was the coach of the Flames and I would imagine I was Glen Sather. We would imagine that there was a bench clearing brawl and her and I would literally punch the crap out of each other. I am also man enough to admit that I was a late bloomer and my older sister would often rough me up.
Point being, kids see and repeat the actions of their hero's.
To further this point I'd have to include helmet fights between players on the same team in the dressing rooms of a large number of minor hockey teams back when I was playing. Not sure if these are still happening, but they were quite commonplace from as young as age 8 up unless one of the parents put a stop to it (which didn't happen as often as you'd think). I played a number of sports and don't recall anything resembling this anywhere else other than lacrosse, but in reality hockey and lacrosse are essentially the same with most of the same people playing the 2 sports and their respective outlook on fights. While they didn't ever do much immediate damage one would expect that they would be much less common if fighting was less common in the pro game itself. It's funny to see how different your perspective is on these issues as you get older |

Posted - 03/24/2011 : 14:21:22 That suspension was totally unwarranted, he only hit him in the neck . . .
I'm here all night folks.

Just thought I'd bring it down to where those who think a fight would have made this a better situation, can understand. |

Posted - 03/24/2011 : 12:00:04 I saw that cr** the other night & seriously that guy should be banned from all hockey for the rest of his life. Blatant disregard for human safety. Imagine if the kid who got hit had his neck bent slightly forward upon impact. End result would be his spine pushed up into his skull and instantaneous death. If you cannot use logic or control your emotions while traveling 30mph with a deadly weapon in your hands then you have no right to par take in the game ever again.
Anybody know as a result of the fight how quicky the kid who got hit is coming back? Surely his teammates fighting for him took away some of the pain of his body exploding into the glass couldn't help myself from going there.
