Posted - 04/06/2011 : 15:32:04 I tend to agree that if they decide to investigate the man's claim, it leaves them in a tough position regarding their response, even if the whole thing was done good naturedly, and in my opinion, without any other intent than interacting with a fan.
What I would like to see, is the league issue a very broad, and casual, statement, reminding players publicly, that the practice is not acceptable, even if the circumstance was more focused on fan interaction than betting, and that in this instance, the subtle warning is all that would be pursued.
It's a chance for the NHL bosses to show that they have not only intelligence, but understanding of the situation as well, and it allows the fan to talk of his unusual interaction with an NHLer, without negative repercussions. Win all around. |

Posted - 04/06/2011 : 15:00:40 Pasty, while i agree with you, if the league can prove this happened, i don't think they will turn a blind eye, and in a way, i can't blame them. Sure, it's only a couple bucks, but what if it were more, or, what if during the Canucks long playoff run , Schneider gets bored and starts passing several hundred through the glass? Too easy for him to say "Marty got away with it, you can't fine/suspend me".
Unfortunately, i have a feeling they'll do something (if there's evidence).
Still pretty funny, and BTW, if the Canucks trade Schneider this offseason, they may want Marty too |

Posted - 04/06/2011 : 14:51:03 i hope the NHL just turns a blind eye to this, it is obviously good clean fun, and it is great promotion for the player fan relation, you shouldn't punish Turco for being a good sport and being a stand up guy,, we re talking about 5 bucks or a couple 5 dollar bills i mean lets just chock it up to good clean fun!
BTW Turco just went up a thousand notchs in my books i hope the habs sign him next year as Price's backup!!!

Posted - 04/06/2011 : 12:19:36 Awesome! That's hilarious, though it is def against the rules! Wonder what the league will do if they can even prove this happened? I assume it'd be a fine of some sort?
Lol, not sure if it should be funny, but i think it is. I'd be having a good laugh if i saw something like this happen! |
