Posted - 06/01/2011 : 21:15:31 Well, with Beans seemingly absent (i recall him saying he was gonna be away for a couple weeks), i'm not surprised there's no "Burrows is a dbag" thread for his alleged bite of Bergeron in the first period scrum? Anyways, as far as game 1 goes, what a crap game! Exciting end for us Canucks fans, but little to no flow whatsoever with the constant parade to the penalty box. Sure, the high sticks have to be called, they were pretty obvious, but some of the more minor stuff could have been let go! Some bad calls both ways, including, but not limited to, the dive Thomas took after barely being touched by Burrows, outside of his crease. But, like i said, there were questionable ones both ways.
Both goalies played outstanding, especially Thomas with some key early saves and some nice saves off deflections. Luongo played well too but overall faced what i would consider easier overall shots.
Hamhuis injury is scary for the Canucks, but IF he does miss time, the depth they aquired in Ballard and the depth they've developed in Tanev could prove extremely valuable yet again! Looked like his knee to me and even though AV said afterwards that "he's fine", i doubt it. Very well could be and MCL or even worse, ACL? Keeping my fingers crossed for a minor "tweak".
Canucks 4th line played VERY limited yet again, so much so that i could prob dress for it! If the series goes long, could this become a factor? Adrenaline can carry guys at this time of year, but for how long?
Shanny could have his first incident to deal with (the Burrows alleged bite) and it could leave the Canucks down an important man on Sat night? It will be interesting to see.
Overall, after a wait of over a week, a disappointed game overall, but a result i'll take any day! |

Posted - 06/03/2011 : 20:23:48 I watched the first 15 minutes of the game. I was then off to U2 in Edmonton so I missed the rest.
From what I watched, this should be a great series start to finish. I don't like Chara in the slot on the PP. Also, I thought Kaberle was excellent on the 4 min PP. He moves the puck amazingly, and I don't see the Bruins PP issues on the back end. I am just not sure if they have good enough trigger men at the half boards.
Vancouver was significantly faster than Boston and transition really good. But Boston is also very strong in their own end.
At least, that's what the first 15 minutes gave me. |

Posted - 06/03/2011 : 17:00:40 I thought it was a brilliant game!!
Early on Vancouver was swarming the Boston zone and net so much that I was beside myself that they never scored!
And both goalies made some amazing saves throughout the game as well.
There was good action both ways too.
It is unfortunate that there was diving taking place though.... |

a bite?!? In a hockey game?
This video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNBT4bq-I94) shows Bergeron's fingers around Burrows's mouth, but its hard to tell if he's biting down on the glove end or simply trying to trash talk around his fingers. We'll see what the league says about it. |

Only watched the third - but a decent game. Both goalies played well and got a bit lucky to have it 0-0 with seconds left, but I do agree Thomas had to be better. Still, the Canucks prevailed, and they looked like the slightly better team.
Will have to look for the "bite" when I get home. Seriously . . . a bite?!? In a hockey game? Does Burrows have enough teeth for that?

The 3rd period was the only good one, because the refs let them play and we actually saw some flow to the game! The first two were penalty filled and as i said earlier, some warranted, some not.
I suppose that it could be looked at as a game where both teams, being relatively unknown to each other, were feeling each other out and getting introduced to the series sotospeak? It sure didn't take long to see the hate develop and i guess we have to expect it with what's at stake. |

Posted - 06/01/2011 : 22:16:33 ah, saw the highlights... I don't know if they're gonna be able to suspend for that. He *may* have bitten Bergeron, but its not conclusive. We'll see what happens.
Another thing - what a goaltending duel! Both goalies played extremely well, Thomas faced a lot more quality chances IMO, especially in the first few minutes of the game. If it keeps going like this, my 30 goal prediction for the series seems pretty high... |

Posted - 06/01/2011 : 21:32:04 Oh contraire, I thought the game was very exciting, 1-0 was a surprise but overall I liked the energy on both sides, a good defensive battle.
We lost sound in the bar I was at for the game at the end of the first period, so I missed the bite! Also worried about Hamhuis, but the way he was walking I thought more hip than anything... we'll see.
Scoring with 13 seconds left was nuts. |
