Posted - 06/13/2011 : 11:00:27 Question for any Canucks fans who've been heading downtown to the local establishments. Have there been any bars/restaurants turning away Bruins fans? I read that there were some in Boston doing this to Canucks fans, both in "fun" and for safety reasons but not sure about here. I've not ventured downtown since the last round so maybe i've missed it?
nuxfan, i think i recall you saying you'd been down there, how's it been overall as far as hostility? |

I see your point, sort of. I'd say if it was one person interviewed, it could be an isolated incident or something but to have it discussed at the length it has been, i find it hard to believe that some of this stuff isn't happening. Tell you what, i know a couple of guys who are currently on a plane back from Boston (they went to last night's game, poor souls), if they're not in the hospital or jail that is, who will be able to give me first hand info on their experience.
In the meantime, i'm sure the Canucks fans here aren't exactly inviting visiting Bruins fans (if there are any) to spend the night at their place or anything, but my original point was actually whether or not bars/restaurants in the city were refusing entry to anyone. THAT, has been happening in Boston and it's been admitted by at least one establishment!

I know, don't believe everything you read, but considering the GM of this place is quoted in the article, i think i will believe this one!
I 100% believe that it happened in Boston - and won't go into detail on what I think of their fans in general, and "american" attitude that goes along with it.
About Vancouver, I'd be surprised. Despite the cliches being overused, they are cliches for a reason.
Vancouver, and Canada in general, is a very friendly, inviting place. Canada's true fans love HOCKEY first, team second, in general. No one apologises more than a Canadian, and having stayed in Vancouver and Voctoria for a few months back in the day, I can say there isn't a more laid back town anywhere short of the east coast.
So I really doubt that any Vancouver bar or restaurant would not allow Boston fans in . . . heck, we in Canada are always used to seeing different jerseys in our respective towns/cities, we just have that many more real hockey fans.
So that's why I would be at the "I'll believe it when I see it" stage.

Posted - 06/13/2011 : 18:15:58 As a native of Halifax living in Boston there is some truth to what is being said and I try to help out any Vancouver fans that I see around. That being said Just be happy as some of the things ive seen at fenway park to Yankee fans would make you cringe. |

Posted - 06/13/2011 : 17:33:21 I haven't seen or heard of any hostilities to Bruins fans. I hope it stays that way. Traffic was a zoo tonight though when I left the office downtown. CRAZY!!! |

Posted - 06/13/2011 : 12:41:57 I saw an email floating around the internet, obviously not 100% confirmed as true, that said amongst other things that the Boston Police had made a statement warning Canucks fans to not display / wear their jersey's around town or else, and i quote "they're on their own". I doubt this can be true as i just can't see a police force making such a statment. It'd be like giving the Bruins faithful the go ahead as far as hostility goes!
Another thing i read was Canucks fans not being allowed to use the restrooms at the TD Bank Garden. Apparently Bruins fans wouldn't let them by??? WTF? IF this stuff is true, that's going a little far for a game/sport IMO! |

Posted - 06/13/2011 : 11:56:23 there has been nearly zero hostility against the handful of Bruins fans that I've seen - in fact, quite the opposite, most Canucks fans have been ready and willing to raise a pint with Bruins fans after every game. During the games, there is a lot of back and forth, but once over, its over. The bar I've been going to for the games has had a table of 3 Bruins fans right in the centre, every game. Lots of chatter back and forth during the game, then handshakes and backslaps as we all leave.
I have heard about some isolated incidents against Bruins fans - including a pretty troubling one involving stuff being dumped on Lucic's grandparents, which is just not cool - but for the most part, not much.
On the other hand, the reports that have been coming out of Boston - from Vancouver reporters and fans going for the games - have been pretty scary, it sounds like there is a lot of very open and aggressive hostility towards Canucks fans, both at the games and outside the stadium. After game 3, fans said they were no longer wearing their jerseys in the city, and many didn't wear them to game 4. Bars not serving them, restaurants not serving them. Apparently even Canuck players got "kicked out" of a restaurant they were trying to eat at ("sorry, we ran out of food"). I don't think it has been widely reported here though, but if true it reflects pretty badly on the city of Boston IMO. |
