the thinking is I guess is that the refs need to have total authority otherwise the game would not flow as well and their needs to be a cutoff point, but if the refs continue to either "miss calls" or sway the game then I don't think they are earning the right to that authority.
now I understand that this is part of the game, and that is usually should go both ways, but it just hasn't on so many occasions that one has to think that there could be a better way to do things. look at football for instance, the refs are on point, and if they're not, the coach can pipe up and put the play under review
sure vancouver does have a couple embellishers on the team but a penaltys a penalty.

Posted - 06/22/2011 : 20:53:30 I have often imagined that having a few off-ice refs watching the game, and having the ability to blow whistles, might be the solution. I even figured that having 6 off-ice officials - each keeping a pair of eyes on each member of one of the teams - might be the way to go.
But, alas, even if nothing was ever missed, that may not be the best thing either... |

Posted - 06/14/2011 : 08:34:00 alright i can see how that would get really annoying really fast. a game needs flow for sure. maybe if the coaches had like 2 chances to dispute a call during the game, they'd have to be strategic about using them just like a timeout and that would give them the opportunity to get a fair shot on the really blatantly bad calls. there would have to be a couple other circumstantial conditions no doubt, regarding what can be disputed etc.. |
