That made me laugh, so I'll add on my top 5 OTHER surprises you probably didn't see coming for this last season:
5) Pronger not stealing even one puck in the playoffs.
4) Luongo getting pulled in a first round game after playing like crap in two games, and playing in a Game 7 in the finals, all in one playoff season.
3) Bettman approving an NHL team to move to Canada.
2) Neither Crosby nor Ovechkin win any season or post season hardware.
. . . and finally, the #1 thing you never saw coming:
1) Tomas Kaberle holding the Stanley Cup.
I'm here all night folks.

Posted - 07/11/2011 : 10:33:16 I picked Richards/Carter deal. But it was real close over the Perry winning MVP.
The edge for me was this. Both cases, I would never have guessed, just like Alex said. But if someone had posed the hypothetical question "Which happens first - Philly deals both Mike Richards and Jeff Carter in two seperate deals boom-boom, or Corey Perry wins the MVP - I'd have said Perry wins MVP first.
The whole thing about the Philly surprise WAS that Mike Richards ALSO got dealt . . . that was the whole surprise, really. No one could have seen that one coming, and I haven't heard from even one Philly fan who imagined it.
Corey Perry would have made my top 25 forwards who could win the MVP, btw. He wouldn't have been top ten, and after that that top ten, it would have seem extremely unlikely to me - but he would have been seen as a slight possibility.

Posted - 07/11/2011 : 09:58:46 I picked Cory Perry. As much of a shock as the Richards/Carter deals were, i expected Carter to go so only half came as a surprise. If you'd asked me before the season started to list my top 25 possible Hart winners, Perry wouldn't even have been on my list. NEVER, did i see him winning, especially with Getzlaf on his team (who i'd have picked over him to win a Hart). |

Those were the two I wrestled with as well. I was very surprised as well at both. |

None of the other would of really surprised me that much. It was no secret the Atlanta franchise was in trouble, there were already the Jagr rumors (though Philly being the team was a surprise). While Sean Couturier falling from 1A to 8th was a huge drop...it hasn't been uncommon in recent seasons, both Cam Fowler & Angelo Esposito instantly come to mind. |

I must be spending too much time on social networking sites, I looked for the "Like" button on this one!
(However, I am clearly the only person on this whole site that thinks Bettman deserves a lot of respect for everything he has done for the NHL.) |
