Seem like his career just wasn't that long, but won a cup in colorado and was clutch for buffalo.

My favorite Drury memory will be from this past season. After missing a long stretch to injury, he returned for the final game of the regular season & scored a goal in a must win game for the Rangers, helping push them into the playoffs! |

He was a solid player and I agree I will remember him as a player that always played hard every shift. Never his fault for taking the contract offered him. He deserved to be on the cup IMO.
His legacy will be his ability to step up in the playoffs. He is a little young by todays standards to retire he would be a valuable leader on a young team. |

47 career PlAyoff goALS 17 of which were game winners his legacy will always be that of the guy who stepped it up when it was time to step up, maybe he never lived upto that big contract but it was not for lack of effort, guys like Gome for example you can say didn`t live up to their contracts partly because of their effort, but Drury left it all on the ice every night without question back when i was a Avs fan because a Roy Drury was always one of my favorites

He is just too beaten up and bruised, still a little young to retire but it looks like he had nothing left to offer I guess. Shame, I wanted Winnipeg to go after him, he could have fit in nicely there for a year to help the team to adjust to the new city |

had he retired before the buyout, he would have left the final year on the table. However, I believe he had good intentions - apparently after the buyout he was looking for another NHL contract, but there were not takers. |

I'm just curious...the Rangers bought out the remaining year of Drury's contract earlier this summer, which means they are still on the hook for a cap hit of $3.7 million this coming season, and $1.67 in 2012/13.
What would of happened had Drury announced his retirement before the Rangers had bought him out...i assume the contract would have been void & wouldn't count against the cap? Then again, i'm sure he wouldn't be retiring with $7+ million coming his way  , so it's a moot point. |

I think he'll be remembered as a clutch performer, especially in the playoffs earlier in his career.
I was a little surprised to read today that he was retiring. I thought he'd catch on somewhere for this coming season. He was still a capable 3rd/4th line center who provided great leadership. Was still strong on draws, and a great penalty killer/shot blocker. I'm guessing his knee injury must have played a factor in is decision. |
