PITTSBURGH, Penn. (AP) - In a stunning announcement yesterday, Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin has said he might return to his native country to play instead for his former team, Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

Malkin, who currently lives with Penguins defenseman Sergei Gonchar, was interviewed at a press conference following yesterday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and had Gonchar translate this shocking message into English for the reporters.

When asked why he planned to go back to Russia, Gonchar delivered the following message from Evgeni: "There's just too much pressure in North America, too much media. Reporters constantly hassle our team, there's much more hype than back in Magnitogorsk. I don't like that."

As the interview progressed, Malkin also expressed disgust at the earlier debacle of the possibility of the Penguins moving out of Pittsburgh, saying it "was an added annoyance to the already-intrusive media".

Several of Malkin's teammates were interviewed on the matter, and were just as unhappy as the Pittsburgh fanbase.

"I couldn't believe it when I heard the news", said Penguins superstar center Sidney Crosby. "Evgeni was a great asset to our a team, and has helped us get to where we are right now."

With the possible loss of Malkin next year, not only will the Penguins be deprived of a valuble player, but the attendance at games will most likely drop.

It is "an unfortunate decision for the team and for all of Pittsburgh's fans", said Sergei Gonchar, "I'm going to talk with him and try to persuade him to stay with us."

Until further notice from Gonchar, Malkin's future remains unknown.

lol it was a good one

I was actually certain that it was true and I was all like:

maybe the pittsburg penguins will trade him to a city where there is less pressure (like Florida) in exchange for a first round pick...

Yeah, I was trying to make it look like I copied and pasted it from some site. Which I obviously didn't

Yep, he does. He moved in with him when he came over to the US, and Gonchar is helping him learn English.

hopefully the feeling of the playoffs will change his mind, and if they were to win the cup i'm sure he would stay
