I think Crosby has a 45% chance of captaining the Team.
I think Iginla has a 45% chance.
I think Lecavalier has a 5% chance.
I think Thornton has a 5% chance.

Marc-Andre Fleury will be lucky if he is the third string for the Olympics in 2010...

Lead, follow, or get out of the way...

I think it should be Iginla. You guys are right.Joe Sakic might not be in the NHL. Which goaltender you think will play the 2010 Vancouver Olmpics?I say Marc-Andre Fleury.

It will be Iggy pop, or thorton Cmon ....its not rocket science

If Sakic is around, he will be, but I have my doubts that he will be. Yes he had a good year but if he hits the wall, he's the kind of guy (like Yzerman) who will step aside and make sure the best guys are there.

Iginla gets my vote if that happens. Niedermeyer is not a bad pick, but he's not a stand-up-for-your-teammates-kinda-guy like Iginla is. Jarome would be the choice pick. Ryan Smyth would be a good pick, too, but I'm not sure he'll make the team.

I'm a huge Crosby fan, but he shouldn't be captain yet. His turn will come.

I think Joe Thornton has proven that he is a talented leader that cares more about the team then himself. Big Joe gets my vote

I dont know who it will be, but I think it should be an older guy, not crosby.

C - Iginla
A - Lecavalier
A - Thornton/Heatley
A - Crosby

Assuming that Sakic and Neidermayer are no longer in the program.

anyone of 5 players could be captain
Guest1450 Posted - 04/09/2007 : 20:03:44
iginla if sakic is retired
Mikhailova Posted - 04/08/2007 : 13:42:32
I don't think they should be worrying about captains so much as the depth chart. Though I must say Team Canada looks MUCH better than last year. Every Canadian and his dog thought Canada would win gold, and then they get 7th place. Great foresight, guys. (For the record, I knew all along you weren't getting gold. That team just didn't cut it. I was betting on Russia). In 2010 though, not only will the Canucks have home ice advantage (in Vancouver, catch the joke?), but the top 5 NHL leaders in points are Canadian, and plus Luongo will be in his prime time by then, and Crosby will have matured and will be on the team. I would not be surprised if Canada won gold in the next Olympics (regardless of who is the captain), though I'm still rooting for Finland Revenge against the Swedes for Torino!

It is way to early o be picking a captain, for all we know they will go back to amatures in the Olympics by then, or all the players that have been mentioned will no longer be playing. But I think if he hasnt retired by then it will be Sakic

If he's still playing it will be Sakic for sure.

If not it will probably be a player a little older than Lecavalier, maybe Iginla, but i would suspect Niedermeyer or maybe Kariya.

Hands down Joe Sakic. Not even close. The only way Sakic isn't captain is if he's injured and out before the tournament starts.

I know it won't be Crosby
<---- hint the name
and it will be sakic and Leacavlier and Thorntonwith the A's

Guys come on. It is very simple. Sakic will be Captain.

I say its gonna go to Burnaby Joe. That will probably be his last olymics so it would be great to have him be captain.

Long Live Leafs Nation!!

Smyth has a good shot at one of those A's regardless of who's captain.

If Sakic is playing still he would without a question be Captain but if he is not playing Niedermayer would be the captain

If Sakic is still playing, which I doubt he will be, he'll be the captain but ya I think itll be Niedermayer.

I like Nierdermayer for C.

I would have picked Sakic but I dont think he will be playing.
Mikhailova Posted - 04/05/2007 : 14:37:09
Crosby will be only 23 years old...a bit young to captain an Olympic team, especially as a first time. Just because he's a great player does NOT always = great leader. Get that through your heads.

Sakic would be the best bet. He's experienced and knows what he's doing.
PuckNuts Posted - 04/05/2007 : 14:32:05
These are the players I think have a chance, unfortunately I don't know if Joe Sakic will still be playing, but the way he is this year he may still be, if so he would be Captain.
If Joe is not playing I would then have Scott Niedermayer as Captain of Team Canada...

Player......Age as of 2010 Olympics
Joe Sakic 40
Scott Niedermayer 36
Paul Kariya 35
Vincent Lecavalier 29
Jarome Iginla 33
Daniel Briere 33
Joe Thornton 30
Vincent Lecavalier 29

It could be any of those players, Crosby might be mature enough to captain the team, but I would pick either Iginla or Thornton personally.

I highly doubt it that Crosby wiil be it. Thorntom probably will.
