Now as a habs fan I was one of the few who liked the trade for Eller right from the get go, and at the begining of last season he had something like 5 points before Christmas and was often a healthy scratch or playing less than 6 minutes a game, then around Feb last season someone in the Montreal Coaching staff clicked and realized this kid is not comfortable on the wing but looks very promiseing down the middle, and he ended up finishing his rookie campaigne with 17 points.

a lot of people have been telling me that he will turn into at best anothe 3rd line center with good pk ability, but watching him this year i honestly think that is a worse case scenario!

The kid so far has been a one of the few if not the only bright spot in a dismal Montreal Canadians start, he is 22 years old entering his second season as a NHLer had a full season at almsot a point per game in AHL before coming to Montreal, he has a good 6ft 1 200lbs frame,

As i said i am really impressed by his defensive game he is often deep in the d zone breaking up a play then carrying the puck himself with confidence out of the zone. More and more he seems to have very slick hands and a good eye for finding open players i think this guy could be even better in couple of year than Thomas Plekanec,

If the montreal season continues to go down this dismal road it may be time for an overhaul and a youth movement i think Eller would be a solid pieace to help re build on and would be one of the few untouchables in this team starts to liquidate assets

As long as the 7 million dollar man Gomez is there, there may not be room for Eller to really get the ice time he needs to hone his skills.

yeah Porkchop and Leafs81 i agree 100 %

The problem is that they have guys like Gomez, Gionta, Cammalleri, Plekanec, Cole and Kostitsyn making a bunch of millions. So the coach feels obligated to give them ice time and pp time so they can boost up their stats. If they do need to trade a guy of 4 millions per year, the GM on the other side will expect some high stats coming with that price.

So as long as they're there, Eller, Pacioretty and Desharnais are third line material.

I like Eller and he is playing good but I don't think he's a first line center. Maybe second line and top 6. He has the potential to be similar to Plekanec and I honnestly don't think Plekanec is a legit number one center, in Montreal yes but not in the NHL in general.

I think Plekanec should center the first line, Eller the second and Gomez the third, Kostitsyn should also be on the third and Pacioretty on the second.

I don't miss a Habs game and I as well like what I have seen from Eller this season. In fact one of the reasons why i feel it is time for a coaching change in Montreal is because Eller hasn't been given the ice-time he deserves. i totally see him as a top 6 forward, especially if they can find the right line-mates for him.

even as a leafs fan, I still know who lars eller is lol. I think Eller is going to be the guy that really made the halak trade a steal for montreal, Halak, despite a good playoff run, is still not much more than a backup to Carey Price, and Lars Eller already shows a lot of potential, I think in a year or so he could be on the second, maybe even first line.
