Jamie Benn is off to a great start with 18 points in 14 games! (8 points in his last three games.)
He's plus 8, and a big reason for the Dallas Stars' early success. (At the present time, they sit first overall in the NHL!)
At just 22 years old, Benn is a future star in the NHL. Amazingly, he was drafted in the 5th round in the 2007 draft, with well over 100 players chosen ahead of him.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Benn finishing in the top 20 in scoring this year, and I wonder how many people picked him to do so well this hockey season? In my hockey pool, he went 68th overall, and in picking him in this position, I thought it was a good pick, but it could be a steal of a pick! |

Getting Benn at 121? I want in your pool. Benn was a surprise last year. Not this year. He is a 2nd or 3rd rd pick at the most in pools now. He is a stud. |

Hard to argue with the way he's playing, but 15th overall would seem ridiculously high to me. Unless of course, the guy/gal who picked him is a genie or something?  |

he was the 15th overall pick? I like Benn, but I think that is a pretty high pick to use on Benn.
Or do you mean 15th round? |

he was the 15th pick in our 8 team pool i was hoping to get him as a sleeper pick but 15th is pretty impressive

I'm amazed at how this guy could go later than top 75! I grabbed him in our 6th round with one of the earlier picks, somewhere around 65th. |

Yep agreed and I just checked my pool and I got benn at 121 I thought I could get him later but that's just a steal |

The thing I dig about this kid is how well he plays defensively. I watched him live twice in Edmonton last year and he is just a technically sound and very smart hockey player. When you couple that skill set with a guy with a nose for the net it is a very dangerous combination.
I believe that Dallas has two of the most under-rated players in the NHL today in Jamie Benn and Loui Eriksson.
That being said, I think Dallas has been much like Edmonton and playing well over their heads defensively and in goal. I don’t expect Dallas to be near the top of the table at the end of the season but I do like them to make the playoffs.

I went to highschool with Benn and the kid just keeps getting better and better, in my 20 person pool he went 25th overall (influenced by the fact hes a hometown kid) however i still felt as if it wasnt a risk knowing how much potential he really has, He is one of only a few players to score 4 goals in a world junior game and 4 in a memorial cup game in the same year, dont be shocked if he finishs in the top 10 in scoring let alone the top 20 |

I have him in my pool, picked him in the 11th round (ten guys). And very glad to have done so, thought it was a great pick at that round, and now, even more so.
Still can't believe how great Eriksson and Benn are doing . . . Dallas really seems like it might be a force this year, and I certainly did not see that coming.

I think you're in the minority who didn't see this coming. Benn has been a good power forward the last couple of years and was expected to perform bigger given more ice time with the exiting of Richards and Neal. No surprises here. |

I think most people had him pegged at 70-75 points - with Richards gone he has become the #1 centre and gets top PP time. The only catch for him was how DAL would do as a team, but they have done fine so far.
He went top-100 in all my pools (with forwards, defensemen, and goalies chosen), which seemed appropriate. If he finishes top-20 in the NHL in scoring, that would be a steal. |

Im not surprised by his performance considering his first two years. With Richards gone and Neal traded at the deadline last year, Benn has more PP time. He had 56 points in 69 games last year, so 75 points in a full 82 games season is definitely not out of reach this year. With the addition of Goligoski and Souray at the blue, it surely helps. |
