Well Brodeur does a lot of the work for them, but they are a good team.

I'd say the most complete team is either Buffalo, SJ, or Detroit. All three have deep line-ups and solid goaltending. And great coaches too who know what they're doing and make good decisions. They're evenly balanced (and by that I mean the best players are spread out over multiple lines and not clumped together on one while the others become only average), and are tough to beat.

Got to be the Devils......The have the ultimate system, and as a result are a very tough TEAM to beat....

They play that trap to perfection, and somehow get offence off it with their great transition game. They do not give up chances too often, and when they do Marty is usually there...While they don't have the talent of Ottawa, they play such a great team game that you have to call them a complete team....I love Marty, but they probably would have had a few cups even w/o him. In 1995, Tererri even played a game or two in the p-offs....Ever notice how Marty has no conne smythes? They have a great goaltender, but they don't really need one with the style they play.

Don't forget SJ was even younger before the deadline where they got two oldies in Rivet and Guerin.

2. Detroit

That's interesting. The team I picked as most complete is also the oldest.

I am going to say Buffalo on this one, All around great team and they are good at every position, Babs, your love for San Jose blinds you, Hannan one of the best defenceman, he was only a +1 on the year.

CANUCKS RULE!!!

Why is it that no one mentions how young Buffalo is. Everyone says it about Pittsburgh but if you look at Buffalo's roster there are many young guys on that team. It could be a factor for them as well.

My top 5 would be:
1). Detroit
2). Buffalo
3). San Jose
4). Anaheim
5). New Jersey (all they need is scoring, but they can put the puck in th net).

When life gives you lemons throw them at the Ottawa Senators and their fans and hope it gets them in the eyes ;)
Beans15 Posted - 04/16/2007 : 15:25:21
No mention of Ottawa?? Ya, Emery isn't elite, but he gets the job done. Could be the best defensive core in the league, and some pretty solid players up front.

I would say these teams, in this order, are the most complete in the league.

1) San Jose
2) Buffalo
3) Anahiem
4) Detroit
5) Ottawa

I would give an honorable mention to Nashville. Their team is better than people give them credit for. Shea Weber has a number of Norris Trophies in his future if he stays healthy. They will compete with San Jose for years to come if they can both keep their respective teams together.

bablaboushka Posted - 04/16/2007 : 11:07:09
I would like you to explain why you think you can hardly call SJ's offense/goalies great and why you don't think their defense is that good?

Goalies: They have arguably the best goalie duo in the league. They aren't even playing their better goalie for the playoffs, that's how good of a duo it is.

Forwards: Michalek, Cheechoo, Marleau, Guerin, Thornton, Bell... I mean who has two better lines? Buffalo is the only team with anything comparable to these two lines.

Defense: San Jose has one of the best TRUE defensemen in the league in Hannan, two of the most promising young defensemen (Carle and Vlasic who led all rookies in TOI this year), Rivet (another good shut-down D man), Ehrhoff (a great PP quarterback) and McLaren (one of the hardest hitters and best hip-checker in the league). They aren't fully developed yet so I won't play them off as the best defense in the league, but they are certainly top 5.

I would tend to lean towards Buffalo for their offensive depth and solid top-4 defense core, with a pretty good goalie. San Jose however, should not be disregarded.

I HAVE to disagree with this. As good as the sharks are, I must ask you about this "great defense" that you are talking about. Take a team like Detroit. Now that is a great all-around defense squad. I agree that San Jose have great offense and good goalies, I don't know if I would call them great either.

My pick for the most COMPLETE team is Detroit.

Buffalo - Offense, Defense, Goaltending...all really good

Honorable mention to Anaheim
PENSFAN8771 Posted - 04/16/2007 : 06:40:16
Definitely not the NJ Devils. They hardly made it to 200 goals on the season. Without Brodeur, they would be a bubble team. Brodeur is the only portion of the team I would label as complete.

Buffalo.
SlowShot Posted - 04/14/2007 : 09:34:27
I'll say Anaheim because they got great 1 2 punch for goaltending also nydemier and pronger are easily the best defence pair in the league and a offence who can score. I wish my name was Temu

New Jersey Devils they got the goaltending, they got the veteran playoff experience all through the line up, they got the young talent to help take them over the top...

Buffalo, offence, defence and goaltending, all so good.

I've figured it out, the guys gotta play like girls!
PainTrain Posted - 04/13/2007 : 21:01:39
Buffalo has the best depth on offence and there defence is very good and a great goaltending.
STobin9 Posted - 04/13/2007 : 19:07:57
I'm gonna have to say Buffalo. They're offense is definetely more dominant, but their goaltending is exceptional and their Defense is not bad either.
