Rask stopped 4 of 5 breakaways in regulation and another 3 of 4 in the shootout last night as Boston beat Florida 3 to 2. I know Thomas gets all the attention, and rightfully so, but what about Rask. He has played brilliantlly this year and MAYBE this is the year he forces Thomas out?
Either way I can't see how Boston loses. What was Toronto thinking? |

dont be so foolish,why go & breakup a great thing.thomas is what 38,sign him 2 more years. boston should not change a thing.if they are planning on gettin rid of some hockey players it should be like, zach hammil,jordon carron. leave everything the way it is. THANKS. plus they got some cap space to play with, with savard out.even if they got rid of mcquaid, just sayin they got a great young defenceman on his way up in dougie hamilton. |

not matter who is the key player on the bruins team it is VERY clear that the Bruins are the elite of league. honestly i think if raycroft were still on the team (the guy they traded for rask) even he would be looking good. |

Well if thats true then Claude Julien is very much under paid, and one of the all time great coaches. ( I do believe he is a good coach) |

100% agreed.
I have never been a Leafs fan that has bemoaned the loss of Rask . . . I think he's pretty ok, but nothing special at all. I do think that Thomas HAS been very special for stretches, most notably almost all of last year, but . . . I find him very streaky.

did anyone consider that its the team defense and not the goaltending.... both goalies have had unreal stats the last 2-3 years. you could throw scott clemensen in there and he'd look like patrick roy |

That would be an awfully hard trade for them to make right now though Shepsky. The Bruins are likely considered the favorites to win the Cup this year, so why trade the guy that lead you to it last season. What if they were to trade Thomas, and then Rask either got injured down the stretch, or struggled in the playoffs?
With Thomas' age, it doesn't make sense to trade Rask. Either keep both & let Thomas eventually settle into the roll of full time backup, or try trade him in the off-season. |

The stats right now would say Rask is the better goaltender, another star with a B on his jersey that should be a maple leaf. However Thomas is definitely not a bad goaltender (I have him in my pool) but Rask playing so well, and Thomas being the guy that won the Vezina last year, and helped in a big way to bring the cup home. So with 2 goalies that are that good, how do you not let them both play equally. However with the deadline looming, I think Boston should trade Thomas, but with respect to Thomas allowing him to have his say in the trade, his value is high right now, but at 37 he doesn't have much time left in the NHL, but he could definitely help a team fill a hole to make a cup run this year, and maybe get a year or two more out of him. |

He did force Thomas out two years ago only to collapse in the playoffs and loose to the Flyers after being up 3-0. He started as the No. 1 the next year and Thomas quickly took it back and had one of the greatest seasons in history for a goaltender. The good thing about Boston is they have 2 unreal goaltenders, whoever is playing better will get the starts. |
