NHL players and teams have been part of Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace for a long time. Team seem to use this medium to send mass amount of information about the activities of the team. However, a recent post from the LA Kings has taken a completely different tone. The comment on twitter, posted minutes after the game 1 win over Vancouver was:

"To everyone in Canada outside of BC, you're welcome"

Finish this statement:

So everyone is in agrrement that burning cop cars are cool ? Nice!

Any way boobs AND burning police cars could be involved? Any NHL city that can organize that would become my new second-favorite team.

The Oil WILL make the playoffs in 2013.

C'mon guys. Your choice, boobs, or burning cop cars, some even upside down! I can go to the peeler bars and see boobs all the time but burning cop cars? Remember that time that cop gave you a ticket? Wouldn't it be satisfying to think that it was his car? Okay....okay....gimme the boobs. But they better be nice ones.

AKA, the Vancouver riots were def worse. There's very few cities which get through a celebration, or in Vancouver's case, a disappointing outcome, without SOME bad apples causing some trouble. BUT what happened in Vancouver is inexcusable. Again, i don't wanna rehash the entire thing, but the city is as much to blame as anyone for the way they handled it. Don't invite 100's of thousands of people to celebrate in your streets without enough securtiy forces to keep an incident like this from escalating.

I would say normal amped up x10. Good times indeed! I have definetly seen worst at the same time of year when we never made the playoffs. Only difference was the amount of people.

I'm sure people are growing tired of this riot talk so I will leave it alone after this comment. I don't agree that I am contridicting myself but you are entitled to that opinion. You original comment was

I think a majority of people outside of Vancouver don't like the Canucks. I mean how embarrassing was that riot?

My point is, regardless of how 'bad' or 'good' a riot is, they have happened in more than just Vancouver.

Using that logic, there should be hate for Edmonton, Montreal, and Calgary too.

That's it. I'm done.

Beans - You contradict yourself. You say we should paint Calgary, edmonton, van,MTL with the same brush. I think Vancouver was a very different situation and you shouldn't put a few broken bottles in the same category as a few Molotov cocktails.

Alex - Yes I watched the LA-Van game. And I'll be watching tonight too. I think Quick stole the game. 1st goal on him was interference and the second goal would have been hard for anyone to stop, he was clutch and made some huge saves throughout the game.

My prediction remains that Van will win the series however It will be a tough battle.

I agree it was not largely started by fans coming out of the rink but if you watch videos of the riot you see a lot of Canuck jerseys taking part in the action. As far as Vancouver being a bigger city. Calgary is twice the population of the City of Vancouver so I assume your taking about Vancouver Metro including burnaby, surrey ect.(pop 2.2m) in which case Montreal metro is sizeably bigger (pop 3.8m)

Clatts....did you watch the game the other night? You really think Quick was the reason the Kings won??? If that's your opinion, i guess i just have to accept it and agree to disagree!

Beans....i can't believe you call Schneider a d-bag for those comments. Well, i actually can, because he's a Canuck and you would prob take ANYTHING remotely negative said by a member of the Canucks and blow it out of proportion so you could use it as a reason to hate them further! His comments were taken out of context, simple as that. His whole point wasn't to diss Edmonton as much as it was to explain the situation the Canucks are in as back to back Presidents trophy winners. What he says is true. The better teams are often hated more. I can only imagine the hate being amped up even more if the Canucks won a couple of cups. I know i hated the Oilers back in the day, why? Cuz they were so damn good! I respected them, but hated them as i developed the attitude that "they've won enough, someone else's turn"!

As for the riot(s), Vancouver's stands out not just because it's in our recent memory, but because of the extent it went to. Blame that as much on the police and the province as anything else. They were simply ill prepared for the scale it went to. Without revisiting the entire riot discussion, keep in mind that Vancouver if a larger city than most others mentioned, it just had the Olympics (which was opportunity for protests, etc) and while many fans did get involved, it was started by non fans, many from outside of the area. Real fans don't bring gasoline to a hockey game!!!

Right after I defend Vancouver and then I learn this. Like I needed more of a reason to hate the Canucks!!

Typical comments from a d-bag on a team full of d-bags. As reported by TSN.ca:

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Corey Schneider offered an apology Friday for comments he made in reference to the Edmonton Oilers.

In trying to explain how he thought the Canucks have been painted in a negative way by the media, Schneider pointed out that being a hated team simply comes with the territory of being the Presidents' Trophy winners.

"Nobody cares about Edmonton so nobody hates them. It's that simple," Schneider told NBC Sports.

Schneider also commented on the recurring stories that were stirred up after the Los Angeles Kings official Twitter account issued the following tweet after Game 1: "To everyone in Canada outside of BC, you're welcome."

"What's frustrating to us is when the national media and people outside the city parachute in and form these opinions," Schneider continued. "They take things for facts that aren't really facts. If you talk to us and spend any time with us, you understand we're good guys."

Schneider established himself as one of the NHL's premier backups, posting a 20-8-1 record with a 1.96 goals against average and .936 save percentage in the 2011-12 season.

The 26-year-old native of Marblehead, MA., was selected 26th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and is in his second full season with the Canucks.

That riot thing is getting more than a little tired. Is it not ignorant to make comments about the Vancouver riots when similar things have happened in the past in Montreal?? Edmonton has similar issues (although not as big of a scale) during their Cup run. And even though the media in Calgary would like to make people think the Red Mile was so great, there were a number of reported issues.

Ultimately, each city has fans that are meatballs. You can't pin that all on Vancouver.

I don't mind the tweet at all.

I think a majority of people outside of Vancouver don't like the Canucks. I mean how embarrassing was that riot?

If your looking for a reason the Canucks lost game one, it wasn't the powerplay or penalties it was Jonathan Quick that stole game 1 IMO.

I still think the Canucks will win the series but LA may just pull off an upset

Guest8875....i don't recall you being around here last June, but if you were, i wouldn't doubt that you'd have prob been one of the guys creditting the Rome on Horton hit as the series changer, and the incident that woke up the Bruins. But in this case, this incident can't do the same. Don't get me wrong, i too don't buy into this crap and even if the Canucks come out and win 5-0 tomorrow night, some will argue it was due to some clown's tweet, whereas i'll come to the conclusion that they simply outplayed the Kings and were the better team on the ice!!!

I just got entered into a draft using this site last season but I missed out on the playoff draft, :( However if I was here I may have agreed with the 'Rome on Horton hit waking up the Bruins' as A) Something happening in game is more of a poke than something happening in the social media universe B) The Bruins are a much more physical team than the Nucks which would mean they could fight back where as if it were the other way around Van would probaly of just lost some depth. I suppose I should shut up now as this is probaly the wrong thread.
Guest8875 Posted - 04/12/2012 : 15:19:42
Well Spoken (typed) Beans, with the pressure on the team now i doubt any of the Nucks are following the media. The pressure in Van right now is most certainly over the top. With their last 2 post season's, not having D. Sedin and losing game 1 to the Kings. My advice to any Vancouverites (I think that is right), park your vehicle(s) indoors.
Alex116 Posted - 04/12/2012 : 15:19:30
I didn't vote, as there wasn't an option that fits my opinion really. B came close (embarassing) but i don't really see the need for punishment. Freedom of speech / expression is a right, correct?

I agree that "bulletin board" stuff get's overblown, especially the more minor it is and in this case, it's hardly anything. Prob meant as a joke as much as anything. Whoever did it, might have been better off waiting to see if LA completes the upset, THEN fire some smartass comment like that out there?

Lee, i'm assuming the guy who tweeted was aware that not every single person outside BC is against the Canucks, but i'm sure he was just keeping it simple which from what i understand, is what works best on twitter?

Overall, the answer to the poll is prob E. All of the above. While it was entertaining (awesome), it's kinda unprofessional which could be described as embarrassing all while being made a bigger deal than it really is/was while possibly forcing the NHL to revisit it's policy on social media matters!

PS. Beans....although a few reckless penalties were taken by Vancouver, the two "puck over the glass" calls were as damaging as any. I don't really include them in the "stupid" penalty class like i would some of the others. The PP was also much to blame. Score 1 or 2 on the PP and it's a different game.
Beans15 Posted - 04/12/2012 : 14:31:22
Personally, I don't agree with this bulletin board crap.

The Canucks lost game one for three reasons:

1 - They followed the trademark of an undisciplined team and took stupid penalties.

2 - Their defense got owned by the huge, fast, and angry forwards of the Kings

3 - Their top line is a shell of itself without a 66% Sedin content.

Another note, this game would have likely been 2-0 or 3-0 in the first 5 minutes of the 1st if Luongo was not as sharp as he was.

Nope, the wake up call the Canucks needed was losing that game, not a comment on a social media site. The question is, how will they respond?? Going into LA down 2-0 is nearly a death sentence.

Loved it as it was 100% true for me. Thank You L.A.
As for this who think this will only wake up Van, well Van is not a bear, giant or some ferocious beast. They are a team of people just like any other team. And poking them with a metaphorical stick doesn't necessarily wake them up. It may infact put more pressure on them and pressure bust pipes or in Van's case whats between the pipes.
People say Van and Ottawa are Canada's only teams in the playoffs. I disagree and feel these two teams are less Canadian then a lot of teams. As I feel it's not the city on your jersey who makes up a team but the players wearing the jersey that makes up a team.

That being said..
I think this tweet is all in good fun. 'Fun' - you know the reason you started playing hockey in the first place. As if none of you called out your friends in some ridiculous manner after beating them at any sport or game. F*** the Media, Let them PLAY
Statman Posted - 04/12/2012 : 13:02:41
In this day and age, when everyone is looking for bulletin board material, how a team can come out with a verbal jab like this at your opponent (after game 1 no less!) is beyond me.

Vancouver's problem was that they were a little sleepy in this game and the last thing the Kings need to be doing is giving them a little poke.

Stupid...just plain stupid!
Beans15 Posted - 04/12/2012 : 10:35:11
Here, Here Slozo!! On all counts.

I use the NFL as a measuring stick when it comes to running a league and decisive decisions. This would not be tolerated in the NFL at all!

Even though I can't stand the Canucks and I laughed outloud when I read that tweet this morning, it's still not right in my books. It might also be a bit of a mountain out of a mole hill.

Lee - I'm certainly not cheering for the 'Nucks. Nope!

I voted that the NHL needs to clarify their policy. It's probably the kind of message that is marginally, but certainly is, on the wrong side of the line that the NHL wants to draw.

Sure, make it fun, funny, make a little jab at the other team; but including a COUNTRY makes it ever so slightly a political statement IMHO in this case.

I can see that they wanted to make it a bit tongue in cheek; but I think it's something that the league would want to address and curb, sure.

None of the above. It was stupid. What I don't get is the presumption that the rest of us don't like the Canucks...or Vancouver...or BC. Generally I doubt that there's ANY truth to THAT.

Many of us will be pulling for Vancouver. It wasn't what LA did so much as what Van didn't do last night. They lacked fire and passion. The result demonstrates that to some extent.

I was pleased to see Luongo put in a good effort. The rest of the team needs to follow suit. Maybe this tweet will wake 'em up some. Lord knows they need it. LA may well have done the Canucks a favour.

Who the cap fits...Let them wear it.
semin-rules Posted - 04/12/2012 : 09:14:09
It is a bigger deal then it needs to be, and if anything, like Guest said, it will make the Canucks mad and want to prove them wrong.
Twitter is a social media site to voice your opinion. That is exactly what the Kings did. None of the players tweeted that, it was just the teams account. You can't hold any of the players accountable for that. I think it is a harmless jab that will make the Canucks better.
Guest8384 Posted - 04/12/2012 : 08:55:38
I like it but I personally would have kept quiet about the game. Why would you want to give Vancouver any motivation.

I really really don't like Vancouver and I think LA can beat them but this tweet is going to make it harder for LA to finish this series off. In my opinion.
