Posted - 05/14/2007 : 11:11:00 Is it just me or do the Sabes have a legitimate gripe with the refereeing of game 1 and 2? In Game 1 they called a borderline hook in the last 10 minutes of the game...the Sens were then able to put the game out of reach...then in Game 2 they gave Ottawa a 5-3 with two borderline calls....and then let the Alfredsson hit go! It just seems to me the breaks, with regards to the calls and otherwise, haven't gone the Sabes way. Granted, I'm biased, but I think there's a legitimate argument. Let me know what you think.

I just think that Sabers fans are complaing becasue the Sabres can't handle the Ottawa power play. Ottawa doesn't really care if its a bad call cause they don't even let the Sabers into the zone to take a shot(1 shot on 6 power plays on Monday night, I believe). There have been a couple bad calls both ways but mostly its been pretty fair. Sabers fans are just trying to use the refs as a scapegoat for the fact they're down 3-0.

See previous post. No one's blaming the refs up here. Have a legitimate complaint with games 1 and 2? yes. But there's no question the Sabes are getting outplayed, and game 3 was a glaring example of that.

No but Lindy Ruff was after games one and two.

Posted - 05/15/2007 : 13:04:04 I guess I thought that in games 1 and 2 there were some untimely calls...and ultimately I wish the refs used some discretion when dishing out penalties. In game 1 Max Afinogvenov was tripped up with no call, 2 minutes later a hook, granted, one they've been calling all year, was called against the Sabes. If you're gonna call one, call the other. Game 2's 5 on 3 was a bit sketchy too. Two borderline calls, I think if they're "50/50 calls" which, in my humble opinion, they were, then one should be called and one shouldn't.
I guess it's a moot point, and Ottawa has been the definititive better team. When you're 0 for 16 on the PP it doesn't matter how the refs call it.

Posted - 05/15/2007 : 11:04:59 I'm not cheering for either team. My favorite team was out a long time ago (December-ish). I'm cheering for the Ducks (I took a bunch of them in my draft), and I'd have to say the reffing looks fair enough to me. Some of the calls have been cheap, but for both sides. Buffalo is taking penalties because they can't handle the pressure Ottawa is putting on them - that's my take. |

And if there is a bias, I would have to say it's in favor of Buffalo. They have gotten 13 PP's in the series, and 71 in the playoffs compared to 10 in the series of OTT and 54 in the playoffs. Only Detroit has had more PP chances in the playoffs that Buffalo, and Ottawa has had the least PP chances of anyone left.
Let's not scream bias because Ottawa is 4-10 on the PP while Buffalo is what??? 0-13???
I'm seeing the reffing as fair.
But they have been calling the ones that aren't penalty's and they are calling the ones that shouldn't be penalty's. If that made sense. |
