Posted - 08/19/2008 : 12:48:20 My first line:
My LW would be Evgeni Malkin. With Hossa gone in PIT anyways, Crosby and Malkin will dominate the offense. At center, although I can't say I'm a fan, he is wicked, Sid the Kid. Who else would you want centering you're top scoring line? RW - number 8, Alexander the Great
Second line:
LW - Conn Smythe winner Hank Zetterberg. C - Pavel Datsyuk RW - Jerome Iginla I think those three could really put the puck in the net, the only problem is would number 12 get along with rivals 13 and 40?
Third Line:
LW - Rick Nash - elite goal scorer! C - Joe Thornton - someone to feed the puck and provide a little grit and a rocket. RW - Jagr - and I just don't get how critics are saying NYR are in BETTER shape than they were Jagr leading the team. He was his best in PIT but the best leader in NYR. And he can get the job done no matter where he's at on the ice.
Fourth Line:
LW - Eric Staal C - Lecavalier RW - hmmm... I like Morrow on my team so I'll go with him.
Goalies:
For anyone who thinks anybody BUT Marty Brodeur, then you're making a big mistake.
Backin up Brody - Either Roberto, Nabby, or (a bit of a suprise but is VERY underrated) Pascal Leclaire |

1st line is solid 2nd lne is solid 3rd line what are you thinking? All three are centres. With most of them never really playing the role as a winger or not very effective as a winger. 4th line, why split up Zetterberg and Datsyuk? Kovalev, really? He is really skilled but desire and day in day out? I don't think he will show up when you need him.
Ommissions: Lecavalier - why is he not there over Spezza is unknown. E. Staal, Nash (I don't think there are enough finishers on your list). Though there are so many good players picking the best of the best is tough, everyone will have an opinion.
I put Dats with Zetterberg, I just did it in about 5 minutes and forgot all about Lecavalier

I would put my "old" guys any day against your new guys. Where were Thornton, Heatley, Getzlaf, and Gaborik? And Crosby is somehow leading in points because he happens to be on the ice and they just throw assists at him even when he doesn't touch the puck! All his points come from second assists.
Ok just throwing this out there, but I can say with 100% positivity that Alfie had no impact on his team during the playoffs whatsoever. He played in 2 games, had no points and was a -2; if that's your kind of impact player then i would go in a pool against you anyday, lol.
And i totally disagree about Crosby as well. You can love him or you can hate him, but you have to give him credit. People are finding every explanation possible to explain why he is getting points, but here is one theory that I have; it is mind boggling... maybe he's actually a good player? He does work hard every shift, he is the best playmaker in the game... so how can you fault him for all of his points being assists?
But at the end of the day it's just my opinion against yours... just gotta live with it
Well Alfredsson, granted only played 2 games, but that showed me a lot of heart, which the rest of his team lacked. He was playing injured afterall. But if I had a healthy Alfie, he would be up with the scoring leaders.
I hear what you're saying about Crosby. But I will admit that my hatred for him does steer the way that I see a play happen when it involves him. However, I also tend to look at it with a more critical eye, than someone who would just see the result. As an example, (can't remember exactly which game it was, but it was against NYR in the playoffs), he took a shot that rebounded to another player, who took a shot that rebounded to another player, who ended up scoring. And then they give an assist to Crosby. I was like WTF?! How does he get an assist out of that? Then someone at work told me that it is just the last 3 people that touched it last (regardless of whether or not the opposing team touched the puck or not - I guess the opposition needs to have control of it). These were the type of points he got in the whole game and ended up with the first star....It just seemed to me that the league was just throwing points at him. Can he skate? Sure he can. Can he pass? Sure he can. Can he deke? Sure he can. Can he carry a team on his back? NO HE CAN"T! I have never seen that from him yet. Malkin seems to be the one that can do that. He is a more complete player than Crosby, in my estimation. And you're right, it's just my opinion. But isn't that what the poll was about? MY dream team? So if I were to put MY dream team together, I would not want to spoil it by having a cry-baby on the team. |

All I have to say is wow! I can't believe you left out guys like Crosby, Zetterberg, Thornton, Heatley, Malkin, Getzlaf, Gaborik, E. Staal, for a bunch of oldies like Sundin, Jagr, Sakic, Modano and Alfie.
Pick any four of my 7 to replace the old 4. Not that I'm saying the old 4 guys are bad, but there are much better choices than those you've listed.
Keep in mind that this MY dream team. The players that I'D like to see play together....
- Zetterberg is ok, but I'd like to see him do as well without Datsyuk - Thornton never impressed me so I didn't want him on my team. He can't seem to score a goal to save his life....I'm sure I'll get flack for this, but hey, isn't that why Boston got rid of him? Cause he couldn't score goals? - Malkin - I got nothing against him. It's just that there's too many players to choose from. I put him on my spare line didn't I? - Getzlaf is good, but same thing as Malkin. - Heatley - see Malkin - Gaborik - now, he's an interesting one, cause I really like the guy, but I didn't see him fitting on my speed line, so i left him off entirely. I just think that Kovolchuk, Datsyuk, and Ovechkin are better than him (not necessarily faster). -E. Staal - See Malkin - Crosby - here we have a special case. In that, I can't stand him! I don't need any panty waist, diving, whining little brat on MY DREAM TEAM!

Posted - 05/14/2008 : 08:41:39 Did you guys notice that most ( 11 - 14) players you selected for your "dream team" are Canadian!!! How could anyone leave the great one off thier list is beyond me....
My list (all canadian)
Let's take the Canada cup team from 1987 Anyone of the word junior hockey teams coached by Sutter 2002 olympic team ( this one still had a touch of Gretzky)
Basically, no matter which way you look at it -- the dream team will aways have 75% CDN talent on it.
PS -- they 2010 olympic team for Canada will have alot of the Grand Forks World Junior Gold winning team on it -- this will be Crosby's team -- |
