Is there a place in the states that has a football, baseball or basketball team or maybe just all of them that hockey is the most popular out of them all. |

I don't know if Hockey is bigger than baseball in NY. The Rangers are always a tough ticket, but the Devils always have empty seats. I think the Isles are usually somewhere in between. At the same time, it isn't exactly hard to get Yankees tickets for most games either, but with 81 home games and a larger stadium, that makes sense too. I don't think the Bruins are more popular than the Pats or Celtics, though. I think alot of it depends on which teams in a market are most successful. You look at Denver and the popular teams are the Broncos and Avs. Both have won championships in the past 10 years. Heck, we fill up the Pepsi Center for pro lacrosse after they won a championship last season!
- Aren't NHL and NFL seasons at the same time ? The NFL season starts 4 weeks prior to the NHL season, Superbowl is 8 - 10 weeks before the regular NHL season ends. The NFL season is just shorter. Before the Bills get eliminated from playoff contention next year, count how many Sabre flags are out then. Go to there newspaper website - I betcha Bills are higher billed all year except for the end of the NHL season after football is over, and even then they jump in there time to time.
- I cannot be convinced that hockey is second only to baseball in NY/Bos/Philly. I wish it was true though. I wish the whole world knew what I knew about hockey: that it is the most amazing game on earth. For me nothing beats it. It is such a non-argument for me that I don't even argue with people down here (I only just moved to SC 1 1/2 yrs ago from Canada) when they say any sport is better. No sport is better. It is about the only thing in the world I am closed-minded about. It is the only thing in the world I won't argue over. I feel sad for people who don't get it like I ( we?) do. I have driven 2 1/2 hrs to an SPHL game on my day off just to see live hockey. That is how bad my sickness is now.....uh.....I am rambling.
- I thought that was a funny comment about Theodore with his mask I picture him going around town hiding in his mask due to shame |

I'd agree with you Stastny. I just moved here in December and the Avs are definitely more popular than the Nuggets or Rockies. I think the Broncos are probably still #1 though. University of Denver Hockey is pretty popular here as well, so it isn't just the Avs. |

Well yeah, what's the point of hanging signs and going crazy if they're not in the playoffs? If they aren't playing in May and June, it doesn't make sense to still cheer for them during that time...
I know people living in Buffalo who support the Sabres more, you see people who care more for the Bills. There's a lot of support for both; first, second...there's some gray area.
In Minnesota, the SPORT of hockey is more popular than basketball or baseball, although the professional franchises may differ. The Vikings, Twins, and Timberwolves may be viewed more than the Wild (although I highly doubt it with the Twins and Timberwolves), but hockey is definitely more popular for the people there to play on their own, i.e. on a rec or school team. |

I'm not sure if I totally agree with that. Of course there will be a lot of Sabres signs and flags everywhere right now because the Sabres WERE in the play-offs. When they were on hard times and they had a horrible team, I barely saw anything to do with the Sabres and I'm over there fairly regularly. I know that they have a lot of support (It seems like mostly from Southern Ontario more than Western NY), but I still think the Bills are number one there. |

O, well Colorado is one of the more popular paces in the states for hockey, so I thought it would be close

That's pretty much right Leafsfan. Unfortunatley the only way for the NHL to become the most popular sport down here would be for the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NASCAR to go on strike for a few years or something. Part of the reason it's not so popular is because no one's really exposed to it except in colder areas, so most people don't get to see how cool the game really is. What I've noticed though, is that after people see a game, whether it's a high school game or an NHL game, they discover "Hey, hockey is actually kinda cool!". I've seen that happen. I think if more people would just go out and watch some games they'd find a new liking for the sport. |

I don't think that the NHL can generate enough intrest down there. Its weird because hockey is physical and fast-paced, something I would think Americans would enjoy. But there are great fans down there. Look in our forums, Mik, Pickles and GoWingsGo are american and have a profound knowledge of the game. So there is some hope.
When life gives you lemons throw them at the Ottawa Senators and their fans and hope it gets them in the eyes ;) |

There's no way the Wild are more popular than the Vikings. Even major college football teams in the region are far more popular. There is no place in America where the NHL team in the area is more popular than any other major team. Not even in Buffalo where the Sabres only have the Bills to compete with. Or in Pittsburgh where there is no NBA team. |

Probably the only possible place that comes close.. but I still don't believe it.
The NHL just can't/doesn't compete in these American
markets that have other big league teams. |
