And the cap moving is part of the CBA. The Cap is 54% of NHL revenue. So the more money the teams make, the more money available for the players. It's a better system than what was in place before. This way, the players and owners will get richer on the same level.

I Love your Kids, IHC is the man, and The Oilers Rule. Does that make me insane??

Seriously, last season was the best that I can remember for years and they're just gonna screw it all up again and the small-market guys are gonna be left in the dust again! Perfect example, NYR signing Gomez for 51.5 million for 7 yrs and Drury for 31.25 million over 5 yrs. Hockey fans...please stay tuned for the demise of the small-market franchises...

It's not the hard cap that has helped franchises, it's the revenue sharing. Small market teams will be fine, because even if they're generating small amounts of revenues, the NHL has the resources through revenue sharing to help them get on par with the rest of the league and then some. In 05-06 the 11 low revenue generators received $90 million in revenue sharing funds. About 8.2 million a team on average - that's 20% of the cap!!! New York and Toronto came up with $20 million of that - I think the NHL has a sustainable business model now (thanks Gary!!! *ahem*)

What was the point of the cap? Now some teams were paying less then 50.3 before the lockout.

That's good should open things up a little more, teams can get players like Briere for a lot and have a little room left.
