Can anyone explain to me the format of the Spengler Cup? It seems that Canada is the only national team playing a bunch of club teams. Has always confused me.

Brandon Reid, and the other York are the only two players I recognized... other than coach Mark Habscheid

From what I can tell, Canadian players playing in European leagues get together to form team Canada. And If there are Canadian players playing on Davos or other clubs they have the option to either play for that club or Canada. Still, when I see the highlights it is a bunch of guys I have never heard of

the spengler cup is played every year in davos, switzerland between christmas and new year's eve. five teams participate in the tournament, with a select team from canada usually included. (canada first competed at the spengler cup in 1984). the rochester americans of the AHL were the first north american professional team to compete at the tournament when they took part in 1996 and finished fourth.

after a round-robin series, the top two teams meet in the final game.
