Claude Julien was fired this weekend and Bob Gainey has stepped behind the bench to coach the Les Canadiens for the rest of the season. I'm not sure why he doesn't want get Guy Carbonneau behind the bench ASAP. You would think that since he doesn't really know the teams current players very well he would want to jump right in and help them make the playoffs.

Looks like it is working so far with the Canadiens having back to back wins. I kind of feel sorry for Julien as he has had to deal with Koivu and Kovalev being injured for a good part of the season.

Carboneau will fit in well. He's a Gainey insider. He is very familiar with the city and the legend of Canadiens hockey. He lacks a bit of experience coaching at this level but that is what the transition is about.

He is behind the bench as assistant coach and maybe easing him into a bad situation is better than throwing him in without a paddle.
