Selanne is done Antro, I'll eat my hat if he isn't. But I, too, want to see the Ducks have another run at the expense of the Wings.

Actually, maybe the old Ducks of 2003... not these ones.

I hope Salanne comes back so they can reel in those Wings again.
karacter Posted - 12/09/2007 : 14:11:02
your right he is probably not coming back but...he said if he was not gonna come back unless scott does (which he just said he is) and until after he had his baby (which he just had) that said don't speak on what you think and speak on what you know...so give him more then um 4 days to declare if he is coming back or not ok?

Niedermayer's doing his best Roger Clemens impression, I guess.

Selanne is not coming back, if he was coming back he would of done it already.

Neidermayer definitely IS worth it, and above all else, he deserves it, as do the fans. I would get rid of Schneider from every standpoint but one: the moral standpoint. Now nobody thinks about this in business or in the media or anywhere, but, Burke has to be able to sleep at night. I'm asking for your thoughts:

Do you think it is right to make a 38 year old restart his life in a new city, and resettle with four young kids just months after already having done so? On the other hand, do you think it is right not to allow your franchise player, the guy who brought your city its first cup, and who has been battling himself for six months whether or not to come back, to do so when he decides to? Thoughts please.

wow...as an anaheim fan i would have to say i would much rather have beauchemin than schneider. he is younger and much more versatile. the ducks are stuck putting out their 5th/6th defensemen cuz schneider doesn't kill penalties. beauchemin is in the top 3 in ice time and schneider could never do that. All of that stated the ducks are fine cap wise for this year but they need to cear around 1.4million for next year. That stated, there are plenty of people they could trade for draft picks it doesn't have to be schneider. and by not trading schneider you probably have the best defensive core ever to hit the ice. neidermeyer, pronger, beauchemin, shcneider. i mean no one talks to o'donnel but he is as solid as they come. he skates with pronger and is a maniac on the penalty kill.

Moving Beachemain is shooting yourself in the foot. If you want to bring in a guy at the end of his career (Neidermayer) do it by getting rid of another oldie (Schneider)

Maybe it's possible to move Beauchmin instead of Schneider and have an amazing top 3.

Ellis or Mason?

Schneider will only get Burke a third yound choice if he is lucky.

Burke is stuck between a rock, and a hard spot, why would any GM give more than a third round player to a team that has no choice but to make a trade.

The only team Selanne will return to is Anaheim. So the "Finnish Flash" is done. Now is he HHOF? Once he officially announces his retirement we'll have a debate on the HHOF possibilities with Teemu.

Burke said it will take 7-10 days for him to get back in uniform. He isn't captain, and won't be. Brian says he himself is not sure what to do about the cap. He says that after the 20 game mark he started making trades regardless, especially the Bryzgalov one, and that he met with the players and said it's not because of Scotty's apparent return, it's because at that point in time they were in 8th with the teams behind them having 3 game in hand. The only time he sounded annoyed was when he talked about next year.

'He’s made it clear that his commitment to come back now is for this season only. And I’ve made it clear that we’re not going through this same dance again. If he feels he’s going to retire at the end of this season, I’m going to produce those voluntarily retired papers within about two minutes. I respect what Scotty’s has gone through. I think you all know that. This is a warrior and he’s a great hockey player and he’s earned that right. I don’t know if he’s earned it twice. It did force us to stay on the sidelines and keep some money inactive and refrain from making some moves. I think we owed him that once. I’m not sure we owe him that twice.'

Who Jeremy? Selanne?

I think Selanne can't return now. Niedermayer was quick to jump the gun, and it's one or the other. Burke even said, it's this year and done. So, that seems to tell me that he thinks they can have a cup team, which I think is possible. But listen, Schneider, who Bob McKenzie suggest they trade, will be around for a little while longer. I think they can get a lot for him. By dropping him to waivers to pick up Neidermayer, they have one season to produce, plus some cap room when Niedermayer calls it quits for good. The best they can have to show for it is draft picks, if they choose to trade Schneider. Does Burke even have the time for this?

Take Niedermayer out of the equation, and you can pick up alot more talent.

I think Niedermayer will be a great addition, I am just wondering if it's berst to have him back. It can be debated both ways, I'd like to hear what you guys think. At the end of the day, that's what they pay Burke for, ain't it?

I loved Burke's comment. Something to the effect of -

"He won't be doing this again next year. He's earned the right to do this once, but not twice!"

It was a standard issue Brian Burke comment. Love it!

I'd love to see Schneider back on the wings, but that contract is way too high.

How many teams can afford him?

I heard that Niedermayer specifically requested that noone from last year's Cup winning team be traded. He doesn't want to cause any of them to lose their roster spot. That leaves very few trade options.
nashvillepreds Posted - 12/06/2007 : 07:27:43
Schneider is logging 5 mil in ducks cap space. If they trade anybody, it will probably be him. He'll be better off with another team. With the ducks, he would be sent down to the 2 powerplay. Imagine how good the ducks would have been with Beachmin, Pronger Schneider and Neidermayer, scary!

Burke did not sound all too happy in his interview last night...

Selanne is a UFA, he has not been offered a contract that we know of by any of the 30 teams. Anaheim has no cap space for Selanne, so Burke will not be offering him a contract.

As of last night it looks like they may try to move Schneider.

There may not be many takers as his salary is 5.5 mil this season, and next is 5.75 mil, and he is 38 years old.

The good thing is Anaheim did not give up anything for him because he signed as a UFA, so even a third round draft choice is a gain for Anaheim...

I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

Scott will return. But now, the Ducks have to figure out how to free up cap space. Not this year, but for next year. By 3 million dollars.

The likely way, a trade. They will need to pay a player making 4-5million next season, to free up 3 million more needed for Scott next year, and to have a bit left over.

Perhaps it will be Schneider?

The issue becomes, how likely is he to be able to just pop back into the lineup at his age and without training for six months?

I'd love to see Scotty return and be a force to reckon with. I also think it could spark Teemu to decide. And, to be honest, when the time comes, I think it will make the Ducks into contenders. But think of the confusion this will cause. What do you do with the D Men who you relied on so far? How do you deal with the lines and, if Selanne comes back, where do you put him?

They suspended Niedermayer to make room in the contract department. What happens if he returns? I think they have a lot of questions and the return of two players, albeit greats, isn't to be taken for granted like it has been.
