Really, do they even consider the logic behind their comments or do they just chuck them out there like idiots?
Why in Ken Holland's right mind would he leave the perfect dream position for a GM in the NHL to run the Leafs? Colangelo was looking to leave Phoenix so it worked out for MLSE with the Raptors. Holland is not looking to leave Detroit, in fact he is signed through the 2010-2011 season. |

And I don't expect much in moderating but is would be nice to not be called the site police in a negative way. I am sure that Willus, Admin, and Myself could stop and let all the garbage posts, porn links, spam ,and whatever else completely take over the site.
Wonder if you would still post on here if that was the case???

Are you feeling guilty about something because I know not what your rant is about? Why don't you just sign up as your retorts are quite interesting, meaningful and full of a good deal of enthusiasm. If you are posting from a community computer then that is the reason for the mix-up. I used the expression "little man" as a little poke at whoever called me you know what and told me to f*** off in the post that was deleted. I see no reason to continue this thing because you are as Wing consumed as I am Leaf consumed and never the twain shall meet. I think you went a little too far back in your references to the Leafs/Wings playoffs. I was referring to the last two. As far as the Wings West thing, I was merely pulling the Wing's fans legs on that one......it worked. Lastly, I am far removed from a schoolroom and getting long in the tooth, my spelling sometimes is not always correct and sometimes it is just a typo but I do make an effort, at least when I am not pissed about something to proof read before pushing the magic button. Oh, I am anything but stupid by the way. Enjoy your Wings!!! |

And some more facts for you regarding the Wings ability to beat the Leafs in the playoffs:
1986/87: The Maple Leafs narrowly make the playoffs with a 32-42-6 record finishing in 4th place via tiebreaker. In the playoffs the Leafs would play their best again knocking off the St. Louis Blues in 6 games. However, for the 2nd straight year the Leafs lose a heartbreaking 7-game series in the Norris Division Finals this time falling to the Detroit Red Wings.
1987/88: Despite a terrible 21-49-10 record the Maple Leafs make the playoffs by simply finishing 1 point ahead of the Minnesota North Stars who had the worst record in the NHL. With 16 teams making the playoffs the Leafs were worse than 4 of the teams that missed the playoffs. In the playoffs the Leafs would give the Detroit Red Wings a fight but ultimately the Leafs would fall in 6 games. |

You have no idea how stupid this post really makes you look.
First of all I never called anyone butthead and never called you any name.
Secondly I am not little in any way, unlike the way you just resorted to insulting someone.
Thirdly, "seems" is the KEY word, if you would actually look at the facts in the matter, not the perceptions, you would have noticed I started the thread on January 22nd, 1 week ago, there was hockey on the weekend of January 20-21.
Fourthly my spelling is just fine, look at your own and do yourself the favours from now on.
When there are only 6 teams in a league, damn right I will sell those Cups short. The Leafs have not won a single Cup since the league expanded from 6 teams, the Wings won 3 times since then including winning the Cup in a 30 TEAM league.
What difference does it make if the Wings could beat the Leafs in the playoffs or not...at least the Wings have shown they can win the big one and the Devils, Lightning and Hurricanes had no trouble winning the Cup despite the presence of your Almighty Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference.
And the fact is the Leafs were greatful to get away from the Western Conference because of the rivalries AND because they thought it would be easier to win a Cup. The Wings have been in the Western Confernce for decades now, they did not ask to go there and in fact they want to move to the East and have made that well known to the NHL. |

Posted - 01/28/2008 : 21:08:34 Colin Campbell to be the GM of the Leafs? I heard that one before but dismissed it as being rather an unusual choice. I would think that Bettman would be very unhappy to lose Campbell as his chief disiplinarian because he obviously controls him like a puppet. How else can you explain the lack of discipline that is meted out to U.S. based teams commiting fouls against Canadian teams. You only have to look at the debaucal that took place in the back to back Washington games against the Leafs last week to know what I am talking about. Bettman's worst nightmare right now would be for a Canadian team to win the Cup while he tries to Americanize our game and sell it to the U.S. populance. Everybody knows it right down the food chain including the refs. Since he took over the league he has put all employees under his thumb and it has spelled nothing but bad news for us Canadian hockey fans and the game we grew up loving. |

I actually lost my breath typing that run-on sentence. It has almost become a popularity contest. Why not Cherry or MacLean? Mark Messier? Why not Lanny McDonald? Walter Gretzky? Burke, Holland or any of the others are going to be candidates weather they admit or not. Why do you think the Leafs have hired a prominent lawyer to assist them in their search. He is there to assist them in buying out existanting contracts and releases etcetera. This is going to get pretty interesting I think?

That's why I was hoping Pittsburgh moved to K.C., Houston, or Winnipeg, so that Detroit could go to the East.

I thought it was the Leafs that moved to the East and Detroit stayed where they are? Although it was fun to watch the Wings get defeated twice in the playoffs by the Leafs, that was the height of their success (and losing to Gretzky and the Kings). Other than that they turned their success of knocking off a top tiered team to Ottawa. That is really all the Leafs can brag about. I just shake my head at Laughs fans cause they will not be able to say that they made it to the finals (let alone winning the finals - lets keep the goals realistic) in my lifetime. |

That would be the year I became a Maple Leaf fanatic. I remember when your Dead Things stunk for many years on end as well and there were only six teams. Don't sell the Maple Leafs short. A Cup is a Cup. The Oilers won a few in a row since expansion and your foreign hockey team has not. I think the last two times the Wings played the Leafs in the playoffs your Commie colored red shirts were crushed by the Mighty Maples, or are you too young to remember that far back? HA HA!!!!!!!!!
I had no intention of selling the Leafs short. In the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s they had some great teams (or so I hear, unfortunately the world had not been blessed with my presence until 1979). They had 2 three-peats in their history, I think Montreal is the only other team to do that.
My rant was a rebuttal to your insinuation that Detroit plays “boring hockey”.
In the 90’s when the Leafs beat the Wings in the playoffs, the leafs had a great team and those series could have gone either way. Borshevski’s goal comes to mind. I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed, however I never took anything away from the leafs, they deserved to win.
Unfortunatly, The leafs will have to make the playoffs before they can beat any team, let alone the red wings. To bad the Leafs couldn't beat Carolina in the confrence finals a few years back.....they spared themselves a beating.
As for Ken Holland, I think his record speaks for itself. I’d be sorry to see him leave Hockeytown U.S.A., but I’m sure he’d be a great addition to the leafs staff if it happens. I don’t think it will, but it’s a possibility.

I agree with MarkhamMax, Mackenzie is pretty credible and has lots of contacts, but in the end, he really does have to talk about these rumours, because that's his job. That's every commentators job - to help market the game by creating and fomenting interest and discussion. Personally, I like Holland but don't like Burke for the job, but I am very sure neither will be the next Leafs GM.
To try and get inside the heads of some of those teacher's union guys is a bit scary, so I don't even want to know if guys like Healy are actually being considered. Then again, we've been near the bottom for a while now . . . how much worse could it possibly get?
Hmm . . . maybe that question shouldn't be asked, eh? |

They won 3 in a row twice, quite the feat, however its been 40 years. I wasn’t even born when that happened, and I’m guessing that you were probably pretty young at the time. But what have they done since? The GM’s that were running those teams are probably six feet under by now.
Flat our boring? What hole are you living in? The wings are the highest scoring team in the league. I don’t know where you get off saying they’re winning games 2-1.
I suggest you take a drive down the 401 and go to Joe Louis arena to take in a red wings game. Their stadium may not be sold out, however there are still more fans in the seats than you will see at the ACC on any given night. Also it’s hella loud at any given point in there. They attract true fans, not the suits in the Platinums who are more concerned about closing deals than the game.
Leafs fans need to stop living on past glory and face the facts, the Leafs have been losers since 1967, and it appears it’ll stay that way for the next few years atleast.
It’s just jealousy, the Leafs fans can’t stand seeing any of the older teams doing better than they are.

Posted - 01/23/2008 : 03:28:49 I trust Bob Mackenzie's speculation as to who may be the next Leafs GM. He has a long history in hockey, and with it, friends 'in the know', giving him more than average credibility as an analyst. I also think he's correct in his assessment of what needs to be done to unearth the next GM. If you read between the lines of what he is saying, he acknowledges the improbability of GM's like Burke and Holland, but not the impossibility. In any event, you can't really flog them for doing their job. They get paid to analyze, so they have to cover the spectrum of 'what ifs', even if those what ifs are laughable. |

I agree to a point, some analysts actually make good points. But when I heard the name Glenn Healy mentioned for Leafs GM a while back, lol, wow, that was the lowest of them all.
I think the main reason some of these analysts actually keep their job is because they have tons of contacts for news stories. Otherwise, how is a guy like Kypreos still in the business??? He still struggles to make his points clearly and poorly uses cliches. At least they got rid of Tie Domi. |

Leafs have won three in a row??? What leafs are you smoking? Like it was that hard to win three in a row when there only 6 teams in the WHOLE league, lol. The Wings are in position to coast to wins because they are so dominant, the Leafs are usually life and death to win a game.

Yeah, I have already heard all the names...Burke has clearly stated he is happy in Anaheim and will not leave yet the media insists on mentioning him as a candidate.
Coming home...sure that could be a reason for some but in Holland's case, I read he is from B.C. so Toronto is not really home for him.
