This year there is a pretty good and interesting final, no question. But at the same time it is kind of a bad final for me because I don't really want to see either team or city win another Cup. I am a bit of "socialist hockey fan" I guess and would prefer if the glory were more spread around for everyone. Detroit has won their fair share in the last 12 years and Pittsburgh had the good fortune of landing Mario and getting some glory in the 90s. No matter who wins the Cup this year, I won't be particularly happy - though if Hossa scores a lot of points (a hell of a lot) - I could be happy for another reason.

Anyway, it occured to me just now that, when you come right down to it, in the last THIRTY plus years, that's right THIRTY, there actually was only ONE Cup winner that I was really really happy about. That was in 2001 when the Avs and Bourque won. 1 in 30!!!! Wow, when I think about it, that stinks. And it's not only that I'm not a fan of the winner, but most of the teams that won in those years are my most hated teams - as a Bruins fans I hate the Habs of course, and I hated the Trottier Isles to the point that I destroyed their hockey cards as a kid, and I hated the Oilers (not sure why but did - maybe because they were too talented - too good), and I am not too fond of the Devils (partly because of their boring play, partly because of the earlier Lemaire and then Robinson connections) etc, etc etc

Just wondering if I am alone here. Are there others out there who basically have sat through Cup after Cup,year after year, not really liking the winner?

Edit - just remembered one other Cup final I was really really happy about - 1989 Flames over the Habs - but that was more to do with my hate for the Habs than my love for the Flames

I have to agree with you, greatly.

I too grew up a Bruins fan, but it was for one reason only... Raymond Bourque. The best day of my hockey viewing, was seeing him finally win that cup he ever so deserved.

So, naturally, when Bourque was traded... I changed teams. But, not to the logical team you'd think, being The Avs. I went with the Ottawa Senators. Why? I'm still not sure, haha. I guess perhaps it was because not a lot of people in New Brunswick where fans of them? They were mostly Canadiens fans, with the next being the Leafs.

So, I've seen my team come close... but not quite there. Hurts even more.
