Posted - 05/16/2006 : 10:32:31 It is a widely known fact that no team with a European captain has ever won a Stanley Cup. Look at the remaining teams:
Edmonton - led by Jason Smith, Ryan Smyth, Chris Pronger, and Mike Peca San Jose - led by Patrick Marleau, Joe thornton, and Scott Hannan Anaheim - led by Scott Niedermayer (Ok Selanne is doing a great job too, but without Niedermayer they never could have stood a chance) Buffalo - led by Chris Drury and Daniel Briere Carolina - led by Rod Brind'amour and Eric Staal
Teams that never stood a chance: Vancouver - led by Markus Naslund Toronto - led by Mats Sundin New Jersey - led by Patrik Elias Montreal - led by Saku Koivu
When push comes to shove - the North American Captain will do what it takes to lead his team to victory. Its tough to argue with this stat.

After witnessing the play of Ryan Smyth and Scott Niedermayer, I am starting to buy into this theory.
