I second it! It seems as though since Sakic has been hurt, the younger members haven't had a chance to see him and haven't been able to see how good he really is!
Iginla respects Sakic for being a true leader. He even said so when he played alongside him back in the olympics when Canada won gold. And the olympics after that, who was the captain? Oh yeah, it was Sakic! |

Iggy hands down with Sakic not too far behind. Once Iggy wins a cup he will solidify this and everyone will be talking about how great of a captain he is. I guess this is why most people beleive he would be the best captain for Team Canada in 2010.

How could you not vote for Iginla? Igy hits, fights and scores. He leads by example and goes after anyone that screws with a teammate. He's not afraid of anyone. Also, he's one of the best scorers in the NHL.

Dallas traded him to Calgary. I know Joe Nieuwendyk was involved and he helped Dallas win the Stanley Cup in '99. So regardless of how good Iginla is, Dallas won Stanley and that it makes it all worthwhile. It is easier to find another great player than it is to win Stanley.

How do you figure Malkin sucked in the playoffs??? he had 22 Points in 20 games in the playoffs last year that's still more points than games played. the best Captains in the League right now are #1 Jarome Iginla by far. #2 Mikko Koivu and #3 even knowing he's an Assistant captain Joe Thornton should be the Sanjose Captains because he's one of the best players in the league that shows lots of Leadership skills and heart.
In my lifetime of 27 years I'd have to say the top 5 Captains 1st Wayne Gretzky, 2nd Mark Messier, 3rd Doug Gilmour, 4th Ray Bourque and 5th Steve Yzerman |

Without a doubt Sakic. One of the classiest players to ever play the game. Iginla is a close second but when it come to being captain of a team, there is no better than Sakic. |

Are you kidding me, come on this player is a kid, he does not have the balls to stand up to senior players. "He sets up Malkin alot" so he is a good player, that does not mean he is a good leader. It takes alot more to be a captin then just playing the puck, he needs to lead and he does not have hte experience in the NHL to do that. Could he make a great captin ? The captain checklist: Jarome Iginla
On Ice Leader: Team leader in goals and points, not afraid to fight to back up a teammate.
Off Ice leader: Very Vocal in the dressing room and at practice.
To the Public: Extremely good. Tony Romo kind of good to both his fans and his home town.
There is no comparison. this is Iggy's win, no questions asked.

I have no clue why the Chicago Blackhawks gave Toews the C. Alright, I get that they expect him to be their franchise player down the road... however, it's just not his time to be Captain.

Umm no. Malkin took them to the playoffs but Sid took them to the finals. What were you watching or have you forgotten the 08 playoffs already? Malkin disappeared during the Philly's series. |

he does it all fights, scores huge numbers, powerplay, penalty kill.
he's a winner,and i try to get him every year in my draft.

Hands down..Iginla. Easily the most complete player in the game. He scores, fights, and leads like a champion on and off the ice. All this and he does it with a big grin on his face. I cant think of any weaknesses this guy has. I dont necessarily think that the captain needs to be the best player on the team, but in his case it works out that way. Lidstrom is arguably a good pick. How can you argue with the pile of Norris's, Stanley's etc. However, when's the last time he dropped the gloves and took one for the team for inspiration. Burnaby Joe is a close runner up to Iginla.

I think alot of people lost respect for Alfie when he shot the puck purposly at Niedermeyer with no time left in the one playoff game, can't remember wich one but i think it was game 1.

How can anyone think he's not a good captain. Easy, his team is in turmoil and fighting during practice. A good captain stops that crap right away. A one other thing - 2004,he guaranteed the cup, who does he think he is, Mark Messier. Biggest mistake ever by a captain. |

Although I like Iginla, I think the best current captain in the game is Rod Brind'Amour. He is likely the best leader on and off the ice right now for any team. He also has the respect of every player in game. I am not saying that guys like Iginla and Lidstrom are not good captains, I just think that Brind'Amour is slightly better. |
