This is kind of funny.

The Leafs management has stated that they are in a transition / rebuilding era. To expect the Leafs to make the playoffs should not be the issue here. There are no expectations for them to do so,as has been stated by the Leafs.

I think in the short time of the season thus far they have played better than most people have expected. I suppose it is possible that they will make the playoffs and if they did that would be exceeding the expectations that they had set out (IMO).

It is a long season and it would require a lot of consistant hard work by our young club. If they do end up making the playoffs that would be great. And who knows, it is a brand new season come playoff time. Before all you Leaf haters jump on me thinking that I am planning the parade, I am not.

Give the club some time to develop and I honestly feel that they will be a force in the future. This is as long as Burke does not destroy the team.

Sit back and enjoy our blue and white finally playing as a team with a common direction and not as a group of individuals with selfish egos wearing the same uniform. Wilson and his crew has a done a great job building this young group of players into a team. And Fletch needs credit for cleaning house.

Go Leafs Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The leafs sucks. So, no they wont make the playoff of course... But if for some obscur reasons (like bad referee) they do, they will be eliminate in the first round for sure. They should move this franchise in the desert!

I'll grant you that Toronto is surprising a lot of people this year, and assuming Toskala can pull up his socks and play consistent hockey then okay, maybe. Still, they have stiff competition with New Jersey, Philadelphia, Boston, Carolina, and (sigh) the Ottawa Senators kinda sorta in the mix as well. So IF Weekes implodes and NJ doesn't/can't replace him, Ottawa just can't pull it together, Carolina doesn't find a way to win consistently, and Boston falls apart down the stretch then maybe, just barely.

To Sum Up: No.
No franchise player, No consistent goaltending, No defensive depth.
Props to Fletcher for his rebuild being this far along tho.

never count out a young player who scored 27 goals in his second season.... and first full 82 game season i think st louis made a mistake and im not even a leaf fan......

yeah but the season after that he sucked lol but maybe hes one of those players every other season he is good tho, well for the leafs sakes. but i see this kid doing well. He played with some skilled players in st louis also played against fast teams and should do well in the east
as for steen and carlo should be a nice change gettin out of the media i predict they turn into solid players like every 1st rounders the leafs trade away after a couple seasons haha

This damn well better be just the start. Come trade dealine I wouldn't be surprised at all is guys like Kaberle, Blake or Poni were on their way out of town. Burke will be gunning for a top pick in the draft whether it be via trade or a bottom 5 finish. I think Blake will be waived to the Marlies at some point, then bought out in the summer. Summer of '10 will see Rick Nash join the Leafs. You heard it here first.

There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E".

I wouldn't call this a big splash, because if I were a Leafs' fan I would be hoping this is just the start of what is yet to come.

You can tell me that they are in a playoff spot right now but I can't see them keeping it and I can't see other teams not improving and taking that spot. Now, having said that if Fletcher (or Burke maybe) makes some big splash and picks up some skill then their chances improve.

the leafs are only really missing 2 things to be a playoff contender...a first line and a defensive force,,,, for example a pick up a guy like Bouwmeester and 2 solid established forwards, now im not saying they're awsome or anything but they kids a pretty good but i dont think they can win alone

Hard to say. I do think that if they do make the playoffs they will squeak in the 8th spot but they may not know until last game or two of the season.

If they are in the playoffs how will they do?

Well all any team needs to do is make the playoffs. From there it's a whole new season. Not putting any expectations on the Leafs tho.

Just enjoying them playing some good hockey.

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!!!

put it this way, if they are going to make it into the post season toskala needs to start playing his best, which he is STILL not doing. and even if they make it they would be in 8th place so they would play the first place team and theres a good 85% chance they'll lose. so id say im going to be watchin my second favourite team in the playoffs again for the 4th year in a row.
