Beans is spot on here, he could possibly deserve it but the Gretzky name adds on 90% more of the reason why he got it.

Chicago Blackhawks GM

Jesus didn't tap.

Even though Walter is worthy of the award, the award is basically meaningless since Morgentaler also is a recipient.

OK, before we start getting all crazy about this, Walter Gretzky has been involved in the community for ever. He (and the whole Gretzky family) have been heavily involved in the CNIB for decades, let alone the other charities and community events he has been involved in.

He was awareded the Order of Canada as a Member which is classified as a lifetime of distinguished service in or to a particular community, group or field of activity.

He kinda fits that bill does he not???? He was "officially" put in for his work with the CNIB and the community.

"Unofficially" however, I completely agree that he would not have this honor if his last name was "Buchberger" or " Domi."

After actually reading the article, I must concede he has done a lot outside of raising kids. But still, the Order of Canada???

Maybe I am ignorant about this man, but what has this man done in his life to make him worthy of Canada's highest honor? Are they going to award every other great Canadian's parents too? What about Wayne's mom? His Uncle? Put the whole Gretzky clan in, why not?!
