hanley....you're definitely not giving Frolov enough credit. He's an excellent player and will no doubt find himself on the team and likely the 3rd line or maybe even higher if guys get shifted out of position or if he develops chemistry with one of their superstars!

Nobody's mentioned Anton Babchuk. I think he's Russian is he not? I'd take him over some of the others listed here.

My guess is that you are from the East. Frolov is better than Slava and Poni. Being hidden in LA does not show case one's skills. In about 3 years, fantasy hockey player will know the LA Kings roster like the back of their hands.

What about Yashin?

I don't think Malkin and Ovechkin will play together. They really have a hate on for each other.

Malkin and Ovechkin will play together for there country just like Sundin and Alfredsson did and they both hate each other with the passion

Afinogenov is playig like crap. Their super league is no where near as good as the NHL players. but Radulov will def make the team. Gonchar if he's healthy, but Zubov might retire.

I agree with you it's good to scout the other countries teams to see what possibilities Canada will be going up against

Wtf are you smoking? Frolov >>>>>> Poni and Frolov > Kozlov.

Anyway, Frolov can adjust to different positions if he has to. If the Centers on Team Canada didn't adjust positions, superstars like Getzlaf, Staal and Richards (Mike) would have trouble making the team.

And they have their whole KHL or SuperLeague to poach from.

On Defence if Zubov or Gonchar are healthy and able they'd be on the team. You also missed Volchenkov as their defensive rock.

And to Hustler... so you only care about your own teams line up? No need to scout the opposition right? And after you go over Canada's (I'm assuming) roster 100 times you're out of Hockey talk? I for one am glad someone brought up another country's lineup, at least its something different to discuss here.

Nabokov did play for Kazakhstan in the World Junior's in 1994. He had to get permission from the IIHF to play for Russian, which was originally denied. He has since played for Russian.

Another interesting thing on Nabokov, not only is he on a very short list of goalies who have scored a goal, he's the only goalie to score a PP goal.

Check it out!

Yeah...Nabokov will not play for Kazakhstan...in fact I'm not sure if he ever has....
Morozov could be an option for the Russians too
Beans15 Posted - 12/31/2008 : 11:00:01
Nabokov is also from Kazakhstan, but he has played for Russia in past International Touneys. Just because a player is born for a certain country, doesn't mean he played for that country. Heatley was born in Germany Olaf Kolzig was born in South Africa.

As far as this team, I would think that it would be more difficult to acutally have an accurate guess. Us North Americans have little to no visability to the players not in the NHL. OF course, Radulov is close enough to remember but what about guys like Yashin, Morozov, or Zaripov who are all having solid offensive seasons in the KHL.

It's normal for us ignorant North Americans to forget that not all the best players in the world are in the NHL.

Karlis Strastins is Latvian....he won't play for Russia either....but he will be one of the only NHLers for Latvia!

On another note, poni is Ukrainian. Also add Artyukhin for some toughness..
Thrasher17 Posted - 12/31/2008 : 10:09:50
They will also most likely have Yemelin on defence.

They're pretty stacked on offence and in goal. The only question is their defensive ability. Pretty much the same as every russian team.

yes..It's obvious Ovechkin, Malkin, Semin, Kovalchuk and Datsyuk are gonna be on there, other than that who actually cares?
