Should the NHL get rid of Shootouts or should they keep it?

Get rid of the shootout and get rid of the 5 minute overtime. A goalie should not receive a win if the other team still gets a point.

No cup for Dino, what a shame

Everyone has there own opinions none is right or wrong but I strongly feel hockey was better without the Shootout. Hockey was successful without Shootouts in the NHL since the beginning. They made it more like European hockey bringing shootouts and taking away 2 line passes. Hockey is a team effort sport not an individual sport. I also feel they made a mistake giving a team an extra point for making it to overtime because a lot of teams seem try to get to overtime and then they just don't care about winning in overtime because if they lose in the shootout they still end up with the extra point. I feel if you lose you shouldn't get a point if you win you get 2 and if you tie both teams get 1 point because before they brought the shootout in Teams worked harder and tried to win, now they don't seem to really care as long as they get to overtime for a point.
That's just me

I don't dislike the shoot out, but I think the current structure puts too much weight into the shoot out. I would rather see each team that makes it to the shoot out get 1 points, period. Then, have the number of shoot out wins a tie breaker after wins and head to head records.

I just think that a team like Edmonton a few years ago (who missed the playoffs anyways) should not have been awarded all those extra points just for having decent breakaway players.

I like it for entertainment value, but the shoot out winning team should not get the extra point.

Not sure why there is two yes' and two no's, vote one or the other and post your opinion would make the most sense...anyways, I hate to see anything end in a tie. Shootout is a quick way to get things over with, and who doesn't like to see a nice goal or a huge save one on one? I'd love to see continous O.T. but it's too much and too hard on the players. As long as the keep shootouts out of the playoffs I am cool with it.

OF COURSE THEY SHOULDNT. the shoot-out has been around for a long time in the NHL, but they didnt start putting them in games until around.....2003? i dont know about enyone else, but i love watching shootouts, its funt to watch the player vs the goalie one-on-one, wondering if they will shoot forehand, backhand, wire a slapper or go on the deke. i dont know why you hate shootouts so much (as you explained, in the TRADE TOSKALA forum) but i love them and i think many others do aswell
