The big line from last year (Heatley, Nash, and Getzlaf) could be reunited with first round losses from Aneheim and Columbus.

You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take Wayne Gretzky

I'm guessing Souray declined

I'm guessing a lot of players declined... Looks like a very weak team. Too many Sens players... I can see Heatley and Spezza, but guys like Phillips, Fisher, Harding, Brathwaite, Hamhuis, Kwiatkowski, Upshall, Lombardi, Armstrong and James Neal... They could have a much better team than this

Here is the preliminary roster as posted by CBC. It stated 20 spots are filled with 5 left open for players from teams eliminated in the 1st round of the NHL playoffs. (My team posted above had 8 of the players correct. Ouch!).

I'm wondering who was asked that said no???

Team Canada roster:
Goalies:

Dwayne Roloson, Edmonton Oilers
Josh Harding, Minnesota Wild
Fred Brathwaite, Mannheim Eagles (Germany)

Defenceman:

Dan Hamhuis, Nashville Predators
Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings
Chris Phillips, Ottawa Senators
Luke Schenn, Toronto Maple Leafs
Shea Weber, Nashville Predators
Ian White, Toronto Maple Leafs
Joel Kwiatkowski, Severstal Cherepovets (Russia)

Forwards:

Scottie Upshall, Phoenix Coyotes
Derek Roy, Buffalo Sabres
Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightning
Shawn Horcoff, Edmonton Oilers
Mike Fisher, Ottawa Senators
Dany Heatley, Ottawa Senators
Matthew Lombardi, Phoenix Coyotes
Shane Doan, Phoenix Coyotes
Colby Armstrong, Atlanta Thrashers
Martin St. Louis, Tampa Bay Lightning
James Neal, Dallas Stars
Jason Spezza, Ottawa Senators

yeah i thought it must have been something like that
Beans15 Posted - 04/13/2009 : 11:14:53
Heatley was born in Germany, but he always has played for Team Canada. The place of birth is not always the deciding factor. It has to do with your Nationality, meaning where your parents are from, as well as place of Birth. Heatley could have played for Germany or Canada. He chose Canada, so he can not go back and play for German.

Much like Pominville, who was born in Canada but plays for the US.

Smyth is injured and had surgery, so he is unavailable.

I would make the line up as this

Heatley - Spezza - St. Louis
Brunette - Ribero - Doan
Stillman - Roy - JP Dumont
Sullivan - Arnott - Upshall

Bouwmeester - Souray
Weber - Burns
Jovonovski - Rivet

Turco
Roloson
Elliot
Bozonator Posted - 04/12/2009 : 21:40:35
Heatley- Spezza- St.Louis
Doan- Roy- Arnott
Smyth-Horcoff-Ribeiro
Stamkos-Weiss- Little

Weber-Souray
Bouwmeester- Burns
Schenn- Doughty
Robidas

Roloson
Turco
And of course some spots will change depending on the first round.

Bozonator Posted - 04/12/2009 : 21:22:24
Hanley, I don't understand a few picks of yours. Especially the non-canadians and players who are canadian with dual-citizenship like Pominville who will play for the US.

You realize Arnott is close to a point a game and has way more grit than anyone else on this list. He is clutch!

His names on the Cup too, gotta respect that.

No offense Mike Fisher is overrated, He doesn't deserve it.. Jason Arnott is more like it, but we need youth, speed and skill. There is no way Arnott or Fisher can compare to Ribeiro, Spezza, White or Roy... When Arnott was younger no doubt he'd make it no problem, but not now
hanley6 Posted - 04/12/2009 : 21:10:51
I think this would look like a great team for the teams that didn't make the Playoffs

Dany Heatley, Mike Ribeiro, Martin St. Louis
Ryan Smyth, Jason Spezza, Shane Doan
Andrew Brunnette, Todd White, J.P Dumont
Cory Stillman, Derek Roy, Bryan Little

Jay Bouwmeester, Shea Weber
Sheldon Souray, Tom Gilbert
Kyle Quincey, Cam Barker

Dwayne Roloson
Marty Turco

others would be Luke Schenn, Drew Doughty, Stephen Weiss, Dustin Penner

I would also find spots for Schenn, Horton, Pommiville, Stamkos and Gagner in place of Ranger, Lombardi, Arnott, and either one of Roy/Horcoff/Fisher.

Pominville plays for the U.S.

Crosby is not the Lord & Savior of the NHL, get over yourself McGuire.
Gretzky has never once high-sticked a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He is right, Pominville played for the US in last years worlds and said he will again this year if invited, it is so he can play for there olympic team, which he feels he has a better chance of making then Canadas, you see his mother is born in the US so he can play for them.

CANUCKS RULE!!!

Lecavalier is out with wrist surgery. And I would say Roloson had the best season of any Canadian goalie not in the playoffs. He has been amazing.
Guest9109 Posted - 04/09/2009 : 09:26:10
fisher??? why the heck would fisher make the cut?
