Posted - 05/09/2009 : 19:35:28 Ron McLean said today that Marc-Andre Fleury has NEVER had an overtime loss which is complete bull crap
this year alone he's had 7 overtime losses, New Jersey Oct 11, New York R Oct25, New Jersey Jan 30, New York I Feb 16, Columbus March 12, Ottawa March 14, Carolina April 14.
I don't know where Ron McLean gets his stats from but I think he needs to look into things before speaking his mind, that's what I do I go for the facts instead of shooting over the hill.
The only reason why pittsburgh won in overtime tonight, they can definitely thank the refs bad bad calls tonight, Pittsburgh should have had a penalty on the play (in Pittsburghs end) of Malkins overtime goal to put Pittsburgh ahead on the series 3-2...
I still say Washington will take Pittsburgh in game 7 |

Posted - 05/22/2009 : 12:35:48 I just wanted to comment on Fleury's style of play but didn't want to start a whole topic on it.
Does anyone else get extremely fidgeting and nervous every time Fleury leaves his net in an attempt to play the puck? I've never heard any of the announcers or commentators mention it but from my eyes he's extremely week when it comes to handling the puck. I also find (I think someone else mentioned somthing similar to this as well) that he either tries to dress up his saves or isn't up to par as far as positioning goes and ends up relying on his reflexes more then he should. You don't see a whole lot of highlight saves from Cam Ward in comparision to Fleury but I think that's because he is able to position himself better and make the save easier on himself.
It's kind of like watching Griffey or Ichiro highlights, it's a known fact that they're two of the best all time fielders in the Majors but you rarely see highlight reel catches from these guys because they're able to put themselves into a position where they can make the catch without the amount of effort other players are using.

I'm not a band wagon jumper I will always be the Leafs fan I am. Leafs will always be my team, But since the Leafs aren't in the playoffs, I truly don't care who wins the cup as long as Montreal, Ottawa or Detroit doesn't win.... I just have a feeling Washington will take out Pittsburgh. Although, lets say Pittsburgh does beat out Washington and then it ends up as a Pittsburgh vs Detroit final I would route for Pittsburgh... Doesn't mean I like Pittsburgh in anyway shape or form, just means I hate Detroit and don't want them to win |

Therein lies my point Hanley, taken in the proper context, that being I am guessing, preparing for the overtime, to state he has never had an overtime loss, would HAVE to refer to playoff overtime games, as that is the exact circumstance that the trivia was mentioned as part of. 'Never'.. meaning what you said it does is an assumption on your part, and you know what they say about the word assume....actually minus the 'me' part in this case..
Thanks for clearing that up for me SLOZO....if it was any other context, I was afraid I was have to start looking to Nick Kypreos for my hockey trivia...and that would have sucked!!

Posted - 05/09/2009 : 22:11:51 I heard the whole thing - and Hanley is right, he didn't mention playoffs, but I figured it out quick enough, since it is the playoffs and I could remember a few o/t losses in the regular season off the top of my head.
Slightly misspoken on live tv - not a big deal, dude.

I can only assume that that McLean was referring to playoff overtimes...
And by your statement Hanley my friend, I can only assume you started drinking early today...
actually I haven't touched a drop of alcohol today, nice try though
That's what I was afraid of.....
Two things about your original post...are you positive McLean was referring to Fleury's WHOLE career? And if not, it kinda makes your other point moot....there is too much evidence all over the forums of your views on facts and their importance when challenging your opinions. A fact is fact not an inconvenience when it doesn't support an opinion, I'm pretty sure McLean knows this, after all he's the one who's been one of the faces of Canadian hockey for years now... I would prefer to give McLean the benefit of the doubt on this one...I would think even he would know 'off the cuff' so to speak that to say Fleury has 'never' lost an overtime game, period...couldn't be correct, whereas, with his fairly limited playoff experience, never losing a 'playoff' overtime is quite possible....I hope you misheard...McLean is too good of a hockey guy to miss-state something that off.. If you(or anyone), can find a clip supporting your claim, it would be interesting to see, because it would sure make me have to rethink how much McLean knows...he is usually bang on with his trivia... |

Posted - 05/09/2009 : 21:36:16 . . . well, I was getting hammered while watching the Caps/Pens game, and I still caught on to the unspoken inference that he must have been talking O/T losses in the playoffs.
For 6 series worth though, it's a pretty great stat . . . gotta give credit where credit is due.
