If the economy gets better and there is a need for expansion or relocation where do you think it would be best to move?

Not just because I'm a proud Torontonian, but a 2nd team in T.O. would strive. Get a North side vs. South side battle going. A "subway series" of hockey! lol

My choices for what I think would be the best choices for the NHL, in terms of satisfying a fan base, ticket sales, and revenue generated. These cities would, in my best possible scenario, get the teams from Phoenix, Miami, Atlanta, Nashville.
1) A second team in Toronto

Yeah I totally agree. I am pretty sure not too many fans cross the border just to see a game. It would create a good rivalry as long as they didn't have fans like NYI, Phoenix, or Colorado, and end up going belly up.

Rambo, I would think Seattle would create a rivalry, not steal a fan base. The NHL could use a west coast rivalry in a hockey market that mattered. Seattle still not a likely location though. Not enough of a population and no demand from that market for a team. |

If Seattle got one, it would steal a fan base from the Canucks, pretty much what Hamilton would do to Buffalo...
Josh, Houston would be a solid choice come to think of it. Not to mention, Texans would love people shooting stuff, I mean pretty much everyone in Houston is cocked and loaded these days! lol but jokes aside, they would have a solid market considering how much support Dallas gets. Look at the rivalry between the Mavs and Rockets down there...

Houston at least has a growing population of landed residents. Pheonix is the home of snowbirds and retired pensioner's looking to live cheap. I could see a team in Houston. By the way Texas does have a legitimate winter, with snow in some parts, unlike Arizona. |

If you look at Dallas they have a good fan base and are in the land of no hockey. They single handedly brought hockey there. Dallas has a strong minor hockey program with teams that come up to Canada and actually do average. With this said you can bring a sport to a place and make it popular if the city is big enough.
Thats why I could see a team in Houston. Its a massive city where you could bring a sport like hockey and make a fanbase. They already have an AHL team that makes a bit of money and draws abotu 5000 fans and that is huge for an AHL team.
I just feel if you implant hockey into an area where it might normally not be you can not just make money but you can grow the sport, look at Dallas, the Californian teams, and Tampa they all averaged over 16000 fans.

This is a better question, than the posting opinions of the legal tactics of Basillie or other interested parties. I for one voted Winnipeg but could have voted for multiple locations, as there are a few candidates that are worthy. |
