At least you're honest! And, luckily you didn't have any money riding on those picks! At least i hope you didn't?

Sensfan101........Pho - 12 Col -15

Brentrock...........Pho - 13 Col - 15

Looking at the East, everyone had Boston top three. Who knew that Thomas would blow up and that Kessel was so valuable and that injuries would plague them and that guys like Wheeler and Krejci and would take a step back?

And in the West . . . who, in their right mind, thought Phoenix and Colorado would be in the playoffs?!? Most people had both teams in the bottom three of the conference . . .

It's been a very, very strange year. That's why they play the games, eh?

It's interesting to look back on these kinds of thread towards the end of the year.

Luckily, I did not post my predictions as I am quite certain that mine would have matched many in there in that so many teams were wrong.

Take a scroll through and take a look that nearly every had Nashville, Colorado, LA, and Phoenix out of the players. Most had Ottawa and Buffalo out, with Montreal in some people top 8 but not many. How many people had Boston super high?? How many had Detroit and Calgary way higher too??

Comes to show that no one really has any idea what's going to unfold over an 82 game seasons.

I think you meant the Confederate Flag. Would certainly give the games between Atlanta and Columbus a new twist. Maybe Waylon Jennings could do colour commentary for those games. He'd be great with a telestrator! Cheerleaders wearing "Daisy Dukes". Southern Colonel outfits for the coaching staff. I think I'd have a new favourite team!

The Oil WILL make the playoffs in 2010.

Barring injuries, here it is:

EAST

1. Washington - I like the additions, they may have finally found a goalie
2. Philly - It is their year.
3. Boston - Will not do as good as last year but enough to win the division
4. Pittsburgh - Come on now, look down the middle.
5. New York [r] - Can't count out solid goaltending ever, and with Gabby there now, look out(pending injuries)
6. Montreal - With no injuries and Price possibly bouncing back anything could happen.
7. New Jersey - They always find a way to the post season, Parise and Marty will lead the way. Although Marty will finally prove he is human and the numbers will slightly decrease.
8. Carolina - Just make it.
9.Ottawa - Barring if they keep Heatley or get rid of him makes this difficult, this is if they get rid of him.
10. Buffalo - Did nothing.
11. Tampa Bay - Melrose is gone for a year, Vinny is back and Stamkos will improve.
12. Toronto - Shored up some D, but still no O.
13. Florida - Bouwmeester will hurt them for years.
14. Atlanta - Kovalchuk may leave soon.
15. New York I - slight increase

Just like Beans said a lot of things can happen from now to october. But I will try one right now anyway and do another one in late september. Just because...

1. Philadelphia (Solid performances from Emery and Boucher)
2. Boston (Strong team all around)
3. Washington (The best of a weak division)
4. Pittsburgh (Still solid, Crosby MVP, Malkin Runner up)
5. New Jersey (Brodeur healthy)
6. Ottawa (Gets rid of Heatly and Leclaire healthy)
7. Montréal (young talent takes over)
8. Tampa Bay (Hedman, rookie of the year)
9. New York Rangers (Gaborik plays 40 games and scoring still an issue)
10. Carolina (Ruff season again right after their playoff run)
11. Toronto (Not enough production from the PP)
12. Buffalo (Same as last year)
13. New York Islanders (Still rebuilding and goalie controversy)
14. Florida (Tough team to predict)
15. Atlanta (Too many missing pieces)

1. San Jose (Thornton, Marleau, Boyle and Nabokov all plays great)
2. Detroit (Always a force)
3. Calgary (Best defense and best powerplay in the league)
4. Anaheim (Giguère is back to form)
5. Chicago (Still rising but needs more to surpass Detroit)
6. Dallas (Morrow and Richards are healthy)
7. Vancouver (Fight till the end for playoff spot)
8. Edmonton (The young talent gives good depths)
9. Los Angeles (Still rising but goalies still too young)
10. Columbus (Mason won't have the same good season)
11. St Louis (They could easily end 6 or 7)
12. Minnesota (Beginning of a new era)
13. Nashville (They didn't do enough to improve)
14. Colorado (Rebuilding)
15. Phoenix (The Great one is gone)

I think it's because people just put the normal teams in there. Thing with the west is every year, pretty much 6th - 12th or 13th are seperated by maybe 5-10 points. So any team that fits into that bracket can sneak into the playoffs in the last few games of the season.

I will make my choices, but it won't be until some time during the pre-season. Honestly, there is too much that can happen between now and October.

For example, Heatley in Edmonton and happy makes the Oilers competative with both the Flames and Canucks. (Note, I didn't say better, I said competative). Tangauy in FLA makes them a sleeper team. Any kind of injuries that might happen between now and October as well. Such as Luongo tearing a groin water skiing. That turns Vancouver into a non-playoff team immediately.

Too much can change.
Guest9838 Posted - 07/16/2009 : 09:20:02
A lot of people have New Jersey right in it. But they lost Gionta, Madden, Rupp and only resigned Greene and Oduya, they also lost a capable backup in Clemmenson (though they may not need him if Brodeur is up for 75 games again).

They won the division last year, but I can't see them being better than Phily, Pittsburgh or even the Rangers... who knows though somehow they're always in there.

Predictions (plus qualifying notes):
East:
1. Washington (going for it this year)
2. Boston (drop in pts, stronger division)
3. Pittsburgh (trying to repeat)
4. Philadelphia (team is just getting tougher)
5. Carolina (resurgence carrying over)
6. NY Rangers (lundqvist has Vezina quality season, Gaborik healthy)
7. New Jersey (Brodeur still capable, Parise has another MVP season)
8. Florida (Lots of good youth, they get tanguay, Vokoun stars)
9. Buffalo (Didn't change much, still middle of the road)
10. Ottawa (Heatley mess too much)
11. Tampa Bay (Stamkos second year good, but not enough)
12. Toronto (strides forward but no power up front)
13. Atlanta (still needs work all over, defence getting better)
14. NY Islanders (Tavares has calder year, but Streit is 2nd top scorer)
15. Montreal (this year's tampa bay)

West:
1. San Jose (regular season kings in weaker division)
2. Vancouver (Luongo healthy and Sedins going for it)
3. Detroit (Still good... they're detroit, but losses take away pres trophy chances)
4. Chicago (Hossa comes back from playoff debacle, Madden solid defensive forward addition)
5. Calgary (Bouwmeester highlights all star defense)
6. St. Louis (Kariya healthy, youth movement working, Conklin solid backup)
7. Anaheim (Still hanging tough, Getzlaf with MVP quality year)
8. Minnesota (still defensively solid, Havlat healthy)
9. Columbus (fights to the end for playoff spot, still need no.1 center)
10. LA (Solidly improving, need a no.1 goalie)
11. Edmonton (also fighting for playoff spot, could very well switch spots with Minnesota if all healthy and Khaby plays to potential)
12. Nashville (division just too tough, need more firepower)
13. Phoenix (rumours and distractions about team too much)
14. Dallas (didn't add much, haven't resigned Zubov, team 1 year older)
15. Colorado (Sakic retired, duchene has decent season with Stastny, with 3 backup goalies rebuilding has officially begun)

HABS RULE!!

I put the Habs in 13th because they have a small team and I don't think they will do good this year. I was guessing they would come in 10th to 13th so I just rolled the dice and said they will come in 13th.

Sensfan - you are the dreamer here, actually. Sens in 6th? With all the Heatley debacle and a still weakish defence? For that to happen, Ottawa would have to get rid of Heatley and get back great value (solid forward and defenceman), hope Leclaire is back to his healthy form of two years ago, and you'd need Alfredsson to continue to play as if he was still 30 . . . and of course you now have that great motivator and leader in the dressing room, Kovalev.

On top of all that, a few of the bottom feeders in the conference got a lot better - TB, the Isles, Toronto . . . you might be fighting for the eighth spot, but it will be with Toronto, Carolina, Buffalo, Montreal and maybe even the NYRangers.

But who knows - ok, ok, here goes:
EAST
1. Philadelphia
2. Washington
3. Boston
4. Pittsburgh
5. Tampa Bay
6. New Jersey
7. NY Rangers
8. Toronto
