Now that Boston has signed Derek Morris for 3.3 Miliion they have a total cap hit of 59.296 M for next season. They still need to sign Phil Kessel, but if someone like the Leafs were to sign Kessel to an offer sheet worth 3M/year for 5 years and Boston can't match it b/c they are already over or very near the ceiling of the cap, the Leafs only give up a second round draft pick. Or they can bump the offer sheet up from 3M/ year to up to 4.5M/year and get a 21 year old who scored 36 goals last year, filling the void of a top-six winger who can score for the Leafs.

about as much of a shot as winning the cup before i die

There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E".

WHAT KIND OF SHOT DO U GUYS THINK THE LEAFS HAVE OF MAYBE LANDING KOVALCHUK, NEXT SUMMER

Losing Kessel would be a pretty big blow to the bruins. I dont think Marc Savard looks quite as good without that bonifide sniper on his line.

I really dont see the leafs landing that top 6 forward they are looking for.... maybe a 5th or 6th forward, but a top 3? Im not so sure. Leaf fans may have to wait until next summer..

Not only would the Leafs be forced into some kind of compensation, the Bruins can be as far over the Cap as they want until the start of the season. They CAN match an offer sheet. Granted it will make life for the GM in Beantown difficult, but they still can match.

but if they bump up the offer sheet from 3M/year to up to 4.5M/year they have to compensate Boston a first and a third round choice instead of just a second round choice.
