Will Judge Baum actually do the unthinkable today or tomorrow and make a decision that will give some finality to this drama? Or, will this continue on as a sideshow soap opera?

What was the big clue for you, Brentrock, to go with option 3 . . .
. . . was it the fact that the decision was supposed to come two days ago?

Balsillie is a shrewd negotiator, and my thoughts are that he made the first offer with a deadline of this season for two reasons.
One, to put pressure on the judge to make a decision that wouldn't allow the NHL to do the predictable stalling tactics so that they could postpone a decision indefinitely, or try to kill off interest through attrition (remember, Balsillie needs public support as well to force the NHL's hand in the matter). Obviously, the NHL can't outmuscle Balsillie financially, but he still doesn't want to waste more money than is absolutely necessary to get what he wants.
Two, so that when the time comes as now, he can 'hand in' one of his conditions as a concession, making it seem as if he was at least willing to give in on some points, whereas the NHL wasn't. However obvious the second point might be as a negotiation tactic to win favour with the judge, I guarantee it will still be regarded as a concession.
Balsillie, as a shrewd businessman, knows that going into a negotiation, you determine what is the worst deal you will accept beforehand, and then demand much more as your conditions going in, and later, if you come up against stiff competition, you slowly give concession after concession until you get your way. And most of the time, you come up with more than your 'bare minimum'.
But this is a bit different than a negotiation . . . as it's all in the judge's hands now really. If this were a hockey game btw, we'd be in the 4th overtime and getting close to breaking some records!

You like how Balsillie offers up the one year stay in Glendale as part of his deal? Wasn't it obvious at this point that the team pretty much has to stay there for this season at this point? Not much of a bone he threw there.... |

UPDATE:
We were told the decision would happen Tuesday . . . it is now Thursday . . . and we still have no decision.
We do, however, have a statement from Balsillie's camp about playing the whole season in Phoenix before moving next year. We do have the repeated statement from the NHL that they stand firm on the league rejecting Balsillie as an owner.
But the one one thing we most definitely do not have, is an actual decision by judge Redfield Takemysweetasstime Baum.
I will write a poem in honour of this non-moment.

I definitely could see something as what Beans suggested happen. The Judge did state that there are 3 options and I don't see either the NHL or Balislie getting the judgement. |

I say option 3, neither wins. There is a chance that the court appoints someone else(from what I understand it's normally an organization like KPMG or PriceWaterhouseCoopers) to operate the company until a suitable owner is found.
That this point, I think that would be the most fair. Both Balsillie and the NHL have done far too many 'questionable' things for either of them to get it.
I also like Balsillie's 'nice guy' move today by saying he would keep the team in Glendale this year. Of course you would moron!! The judge would not have included a move clause this close to the season starting. Team travel, TV, everything is already set up.
Nice move offering to do something that he would have been told to do anyway.
