I hope this never happens but is possible. What would happen to the NHL season if a team airplane crashed and everyone was killed, example, Buddy Holly, Dion and the Belmonts, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson, half of Lynard Skynard, Randy Rhoads etc... Hopefully this never happens but what would happen the the NHL season if it did? Would they cancel the rest of the Hockey Season, Cancel the rest of the Teams season or replace the team with the farm teams players, and if that was the case how would they fill up the farm teams roster?

what do you think?

The question itself is a legitimate one (keeping all the comments about teams etc out of it) Really, what does happen? the NHL must ahve a contingeny plan for it.

[br]Ah...we were all thinkin the same thing only different teams...who`s kiddin who? We`re all sick and twisted...my top picks to go down in a plane are the red wings, cowboys, yankees, and the lakers. While we`re at it can we throw nickleback under the bus too? My x-mas list is long and I could go on forever but i`m gonna go make a rum and egg nogg instead...cheers...

LOL!!! Classic! This is what I mean...good fun! Not to be taken seriously (except maybe Nickelback???)

Anyway, I believe there was a Uruguayan rugby team (or was it soccer?) in the early 70's that crashed in the Andes Mountains. They were lost for over two months and the search had stopped, they were all thought to have perished. You may recall a movie about it called "Alive". A big part of the theme was the canibalism they had to resort to for survival. I believe only a handful of the 50 or so people were rescued - ONLY because a couple members of the team managed to traverse the Andes mountains for 2 weeks (can you f-ing imagine!?!?!)

My point being, I wonder what the league they were involved with did? Maybe time to visit mister google and see if he has an answer.

I would also probably have to vote for the leafs if a plane had to go down. Nothing against the team (well sort of) but more against the fans. They get so worked up every time the leafs win that a good old fashioned plane crash would probably take them off their high horse for a while

That's a very interesting question and one that I have pondered before a few times. I wonder if the league has a specific plan or policy for something like this happening? It's certainly not impossible. I would think that the "missing team" wouldn't be reconstructed with other players until the next season, maybe there would have to be an expansion type draft. Terrible to think about, but really a valid question...

you never said anything wrong Porkchop, nothing harsh at all... I have a very wide sense of humor but joking about a team or a person being killed or becoming a paraplegic, there is NO humor in that kind of stuff, even if it was a joke, if anyone finds that kinda garbage talk funny then you clearly need to get your head checked

Ripley, your comments to Porkchop were much worse than anything Pokchop said to JoshuaCanada

Hey Tiller, just search NHL constitution in google or someting. The constitution was included in documents filed during the Pheonix Coyotes bankruptcy battle and therefor became public.
There are all kinds of sources for it now. Bettman used to keep it pretty tight lipped but since he needed it for the bankruptcy battle, it became public.

Also sorry if my previous post was a little harsh, perhaps it was a little harsh. But I fail to see how a question about such a horrible event could "open a can of worms". Meaning jokes about the Leafs or any other person dying. Pathetic!
Tiller33 Posted - 12/20/2009 : 11:29:29
Do you have a link to that in the NHL constitution porkchop?
Guest7385 Posted - 12/20/2009 : 10:51:18

You, JoshuaCanada, have just lost any respect I had for you. Do you think the people associated with Marshall football team that Beans mentioned would find humour in that.

Lighten up, i thought it was funny too! Only an evil human being would actually be serious about this, obviously it was a joke. Stop drinking the politically correct water all the time - try being a human and not a robot. It was an incredibly off-colour joke but a joke none the less. If it's not your sense of humour be mature enough to just admit it and leave it be instead of gettin up on your high horse and belittling others. His comments were not meant to be spiteful whereas yours clearly were. You should be ashamed of yourself.

To answer your question Hanley, and it is a good legitimate question. In "Bettmans" constitution the NHL would have an emergency draft that is similar to the expansion draft. Each team would be able to protect a certain amount of players and leave a handful unprotected. The team that suffered such a tragic event would be allowed to select from the unprotected players and also build from their farm system.
Beans15 Posted - 12/19/2009 : 20:14:46
What about Marshall University in 1970. Virtually the entire Football team was killed in a place crash.

The nutz and bolts of it is that it the team in competition, not the specific players. They would have to go on.

But as previously said, I would prefer to not find out for sure.
Guest2675 Posted - 12/19/2009 : 16:00:57
Honestly hanley, i have no idea what would happen. It'd definintely be a very tough decision Hopefully we never have to find out.
hanley6 Posted - 12/19/2009 : 15:38:20
I don't think it's ridiculous at all.. I remember reading about an accident killing 8 players for a college basketball team... anything can happen, I hope it doesn't but what if it does?

It's something to think about what would happen if it did... no need to pick a team you think would be funny if it happened to, that's uncalled for

As ridiculous as the idea of this is, the team would be replenished through the farm system with AHL players. The AHL team would be replenished by drawing from the ECHL, IHL, CHL and SPHL as well as free agents from any european leagues.

Please tell me its the Leafs!!!!! I dont even care about the question, just the prospect of the Leafs going down on a plane. The funny part is you would still have a lot of fans claiming Leafs for the Cup.
