It seems like all of last season, Sheldon Souray was on the trading block. I was really surprised that Gainey didn't move him on the deadline. He is an unrestricted free agent next summer and there is no way Gainey will let him walk for nothing. Especially when a team like the Oilers is still recovering from losing Pronger. At 2.4 million he is a very attractive defenseman and could probably command a lot in return. I also remember something about him having family problems and it would make sense for him to move on to another city. He denies wanting a trade - probably because he is a smart guy and doesn't want to create a distraction for the team.

I agree with you he will probably be traded. If you compare his salary to other defensemen in the league then he is definitely a bargain. But remeber he will command more dollars next season when he is a UFA. I think because of that he will be a trade deadline rent-a-player for some GM.

I have also heard another rumor that Scott Gomez is on his way out of NJ because he has turned down a $4 million contract and if the arbitrator awards more than that then he will not fit into their cap.
