Before the season starts and before McCabe's own goal and before Kubina gets injured. McCabe, Kubina Kaberle and maybe White don't look good on paper?

Ellis or Mason?

McCabe, Kubina and Kaberle don't look good on paper?

And what about Blake? doesnt he look good on paper? And Tucker? And Bell?

Let's remember, we are talking defensively here. For numbers one-to-three on defence, Kubina has a plus minus of 6, Kaberle of 1, McCabe of -6. That's not good on paper.

Guys, the Toronto defense are not bad, I have to say.

McCabe is good. For all the attacks made on him, he is good. A giveaway or two doesn't take him from good to bad. Kaberle is an excellent skater, passer, and smart hockey player. Gill is slow. So? Big deal. They don't hire him to bust his skates skating his heart out. He is a solid D Man who has size and uses it well. Kubina is great. Great. We miss him so muich during his injury. He really helps the team. I don't really pay attention to the others so much, sorry .

Now you can't tell me that for less money (ok, the salary in TO is through the roof, I'll give you that) there wouldn't be lineups to get one of these four.

So, Alex, why is Toronto letting in so many goals? I'm going to have to blame the goalies. They really are not playing well, I'm sorry. It's not entirely their fault. The offense is slow in coming back. There is poor communication between players. The team looks confused and not sure what they should be doing. The breakout needs tweaking. Getting in shape would help. It would certainly help lower the odd man rushes, and the penalties.

But to blame the defence is to take word for word what the media says and rewrite it in these forums without stopping and fashioning your own opinions.

The Goaltending was great last night! Vesa was mainly the reason they won.

Yay, the leafs look good on paper! As a team on the ice, they are a below average group of NHLers. The 2005/2006 pittsburgh penguins looked amazing on paper, too bad they came 2nd last in the league. A team on paper proves nothing, if the leafs make the playoffs, then they are a good group but before that, it's just a test.

Take Kaberle off the list he's amazing.
as for the rest of them I would love to say McCabe because I hate him, but I'm gonna have to go with Wozniewski
and why is all leaf defencemen? When the topic say worst defenceman in the NHL. The topic should say Worst Leaf defenceman

The worst by far on this list is Gill. A close second is Wozniewski. They both would be alright as a pair of 3rd line defensman that got 10min of ice time a game. They are out playing way to much for their skill level and therefore are making huge terrible mistakes. They are not good enough to defend against any teams first line and that is why they make stupid mistakes and take dumb penalties.

I think that the trash talking by fans must be giving people the unrealistic opinion that maybe they aren't that bad...

Here are the facts:

- the Toronto Maple Leafs have the highest paid group of defensemen in the league, at over 21 million while the next highest out of any team in the NHL is at around 18 million (not exact but the numbers are from TSN a couple days ago so they are real if someone wants to look them up exactly)

- the Toronto Maple Leafs have allowed the most goals out of any team so far -by 7 which is a fairly safe lead for them
(of course they also have the highest GAA in the league as well)

- the Toronto Maple Leafs lead the league in overtime losses (tied with nobody) and now have 6 overtime losses in just 28 games. In my opinion, they are the only team in the NHL that will play 60 minutes of hockey to try and get one point...and then seemingly give up after getting it. If an overtime loss was not worth a point Toronto would be 4pts ahead of the last place in the league Washington Capitals who would also have a game at hand.

- the Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that admittedly plays the trap now because they do not have the talent or defensive ability to stay with other hockey teams without playing 5 defensemen at a time. (That is from Paul Maurice the coach) In their win last night over the Nashville Predators they were outshot 35-15 ... 15 shots in 60 minutes, most of them harmless!

Finally, I am not a 'leaf-hater', rather a guy who was confounded by seeing a poll for the best toronto maple leafs defensemen and felt he should make a timely joke... Like I said before, this was just for fun and I do not think that they have the worst 6 defensemen in the league, although some should be considered. As you can see, I did not 'just say they suck', I provided facts to show my reasoning.

Agree or disagree?

Honestly, look at the defensive groups in the NHL today and unbiasedly compare the Leafs starting 6 to the rest. They may not be dead last, but I wouldn't think they are far off.

Look at is for this season to this point, offensively, defensively, and what they have done to help their team succeed.

Who's worst than the TO group??

Wayne or Bobby?? How about both!!!

The Blackhawks group?

Ellis or Mason?

Too many people listen to the press rather than actually sit, watch a hockey game, and pay attention to the players on the ice.

When a goal is scored most people look, and say he gave the puck away he sucks, but never look at the whole situation at the time of the play.

Just because you have the most goals against does not mean that you have the worst defensemen in the league, or the worst goaltending, it means that all the players are playing a bad defensive game.

Any one who actually watches hockey will notice that Gill is slow but he plays the short handed situation very well, that is his asset to the team not offence...

Just in case no one has noticed there are 11 teams below the Leafs in the standings, if the Leaf defense is so bad the others must be worse, and those team supporters should be embarrassed...

I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

I chose a pylon. The leafs don't have the worst defensemen in the league. none of these guys should be up there. Too many leaf haters out here. Stop being biased and focus on some real topics.

Ellis or Mason?

That's funny. The poll clearly says worst D man in the NHL. Mind you, all the actual defensemen seem to be from the same team. And what's that? You threw in a man who is older than 40, and a household object in, for the fun of it?

If you want to jump the bandwagon of five million haters, go to the trash talk forum for the Leafs. I'm sick of all these guys who feel they should be running the show. They are all the same. Nothing more creative than 'they suck.' Some of them spice up their vocabulary a bit .

But hows about focusing on the real problems with the team and not the Tlutsy-Bell-McCabes of the team? Just a thought.

There ya go. My tantrum of the day.

Go ahead and name some that are worse then...back yourself up and see what other people think!

And yes, I do not think Toronto has the 6 worst defensemen in the whole NHL of course. Did u realise that this is kindof a joke when u saw JFJ and a pylon?

I'd rather have a pylon than Gill any day, the pylon moves faster.

The worst there is Wozniewski. He makes many smaller mistakes while McCabe makes a few big ones.
